[edit]I can't figure out how to make a "contents" table. Do they just show up automatically?

I'm not sure... I'm new to this... Hi, I just added some extra info about the play in Belgrade, Serbia, since that's where I come from.

I just took out all of the productions listing. It's just silly to list every single production... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.235.253.25 (talk) 08:02, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
This article is categorized as a "British play". Since Martin McDonagh is Irish, shouldn't this be in Irish plays? --Ferengi (talk) 20:19, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't think McDonagh is Irish; he just pretends to be. I don't understand why this play is listed as having three acts. Both times I saw it it had two acts. Was it originally written with three acts or is this a mistake? Gorramdoll (talk) 04:42, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
The productions lists are ridiculously excessive - it should just be the West End & Broadway with maybe 10/12 other "important" productions. I would fix it but I'm not sure how to qualify which productions are needed, though college & high school productions are definitely not. Also, McDonagh was born & mostly raised in England and Scotland, so I think his plays can be considered "British". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdrummey (talk • contribs) 05:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I have removed the sections for college, high school, and community theatre productions. The guidelines for theatre articles given by WikiProject Theatre state that amateur productions should not be included, as they do not meet notability standards. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Theatre/Article Structure for more information. Dozenthey (talk) 19:04, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
It seems the current question is whether to include any of the information about professional productions. What is the case for removing these en masse rather than simply shortening the list? (Amateur productions have already been removed, I assume we agree on that issue). Dozenthey (talk) 16:55, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- I removed the entire table and listing. I don't see why we should be responsible for tracking every single production ever done. Darth Id (talk) 18:16, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Theatre Assessment
[edit]Assigned class as "Start" - Critical reception needs its own section, and is currently represented by a few sentences in the intro. Assigned importance as "Low" - a single play is a "highly specific area of knowledge."--Dereksmootz (talk) 18:49, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- restored importance as low (from mid) as that seems more appropriate. Article still could use some references, some comments on critical reception (not just links) and some smoothing of text. --Mdukas (talk) 05:48, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Essay by Montyh
[edit]User:Montyh seems to have recently pasted a gigantic school essay into this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Pillowman&diff=274346210&oldid=273257022
The essay is far too long, in the wrong style for Wikipedia, and full of original research and unsourced statements. It's also formatted wrongly (eg references, lines with leading spaces). Rather than fixing it up I suggest we just delete it.
Any objections to undoing almost all of Montyh's additions? In particular, I'd like to delete all the sections Plot Analysis, Character Analysis, Genre, Style, Spectacle, Language and Music.
Edbrims (talk) 00:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC) Agreed. Far too long, not quite right is it.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cvmuk (talk • contribs) 16:10, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
Puppet Stage
[edit]In the production I saw a smaller puppet stage was used to play out Katurian's stories as they are told, above the main stage with the human actors. Was this is a of all the productions? It was quite a striking feature of the play. If it *was* in all the productions, it should probably be mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.232.250.50 (talk) 08:30, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
It's not in all the productions. The Broadway production was like you describe; I also saw a production where the stories, which had been filmed with Ariel (in drag) and Tupolski playing every set of parents, and Katurian playing himself as a child, were shown on a projector. If I recall correctly, the way it's written in the script doesn't correspond to either of these.
I would be interested in learning how other productions showed the stories, and possibly including a little information about that in the article; I don't know whether that would be appropriate, though.Gorramdoll (talk) 21:28, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
Closet land
[edit]Hafbreedmongrel, please stop adding the section about closet land. Drawing comparisons between that film and Pillowman constitutes original research because you have provided no third party source which suggests there are similarities.
It is also a dangerous comparison to make since it could open up the author of pillowman to accusations of plagiarism. I will therefore be resolute in removing this section until such time as you can provide a reliable source as defined in the Wikipedia:Reliable sources guidelines. GDallimore (Talk) 08:50, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
- Still waiting you for you start discussing this rather than just adding you own personal essay to the article. GDallimore (Talk) 11:02, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Citations
[edit]I was taking a closer look at the main sections of text. Specifically, the following:
"The Pillowman stemmed in part from McDonagh's experience composing fairy tales, with names such as The Chair and the Wolfboy, The Short Fellow and the Strange Frog, and The Violin and the Drunken Angel, early in his writing career. Attempting to rewrite fairy tales he remembered from childhood, he realized that 'there's something dark about them that doesn't quite come through.'"
There is no citation connected to this claim and it assumes the writer's perspective and intentions. I would suggest citing the source of this quote or removing it entirely. Agranat2 (talk) 02:27, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- belated answer - the quote comes from the BOMB mag citation Mujinga (talk) 13:51, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
