Edit Request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
Hi there, I work for The Peninsula Hotels, and I would like to kindly request the following edits. Please let me know if all of these changes are acceptable. Thank you!
1. History section
It's missing some locations and I believe could be worded better. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below:
"The Peninsula Hotels is one of Asia’s oldest hospitality companies. The origins of its corporate parent, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, was incorporated in 1866.The first Peninsula hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1928 overlooking Victoria Harbour, where it became known as “The Grande Dame of the Far East,” and where it still stands as the company’s iconic flagship property. The Peninsula Hong Kong holds several world records for placing the largest single orders for fleets of Rolls-Royce cars in the world.
Today, The Peninsula Hotels operates in major cities including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Paris, Istanbul, Bangkok, and Manila. In 2023, the company will add London to its portfolio."
2. Awards and achievements section
I'd like to update our awards, and suggest a list format to be comprehensive and include all locations. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below:
"The Peninsula Hotels has received many awards across its properties. In 2019, it was the first brand to achieve Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Status across its entire portfolio.[1] In 2022 and 2020, it was featured in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards for "The 25 Best Hotel Brands".[2] [3]

3. Gallery section & Profile logo
I'd like to add photos of the hotels that open in 2023 in Istanbul and London as well as the updated hotel logo. However, it's preventing me from uploading the photos. May I ask how I can share the photos I would like to include?

- Not done: 1. Requires reliable sourcing, which is missing both here and in the article.
- 2. None of this is sourced appropriately. Both the text and the awards only have primary sources, which fail to demonstrate the noteworthiness of these awards. If it's a sufficiently "special" achievement, it would have been reported on in secondary sources. Some of them could be included, but only those which can be supported by secondary sources. Linking to the hotels' Wikipedia pages through citations is not appropriate, especially as blue links are already provided in the list of locations.
- 3. Images on Wikipedia need to comply with the image use policy. If you find media that is not restricted by copyright, you can upload it at Wikimedia Commons and then include it in the article. A good place to look would be Flickr, as photos there also include copyright information. Actualcpscm (talk) 09:02, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

New COI Edit Request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi! I'm an employee at The Peninsula Hotels, and I have been tasked to kindly request the following edits. These edits are based on the feedback given in my previous request that was declined. These now all have secondary sources, which was the issue last time.
All feedback is much appreciated. Thank you!
1. History section
It's missing some locations and I believe could be worded better. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below.
Proposed text to be deleted:
"Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited was incorporated in 1866. The company became engaged in real estate, acquiring land properties, and opened The Peninsula Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui in 1928. The Peninsula Hong Kong holds several world records for placing the largest single orders for fleets of Rolls-Royce cars in the world.
The Peninsula Manila in Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines, opened in 1976. After a decade, the opening was followed by The Peninsula New York in 1988, as the company ventured into the US market. This was followed by a 1989 opening in Beijing and a 1991 opening in Beverly Hills."
Proposed text to replace deleted text:
"The Peninsula Hotels is one of Asia’s oldest hospitality companies.[1] The origins of its corporate parent, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, was incorporated in 1866.[2] The first Peninsula hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1928[3] overlooking Victoria Harbour, where it became known as “The Grande Dame of the Far East,”[4] and where it still stands as the company’s flagship property. Today, The Peninsula Hotels operates in major cities including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, Paris, Istanbul, Bangkok, and Manila. In September 2023, the company will add London to its portfolio.[5]'

[edit]- The History section could not be updated because a verbatim description of the text to be removed was not included with the request.
- The awards could not be included because none of them appear to be independently notable.
- The images for the London and Instanbul properties could not be added because the Wikilinks for the properties themselves were not provided.
- Logos cannot be added to the article until they are uploaded and approved by Wikimedia Commons.
Spintendo 21:44, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Spintendo,
- Thank you so much for your feedback, I greatly appreciate it!
- Please see below a few questions for each of your points:
- "The History section could not be updated because a verbatim description of the text to be removed was not included with the request." I just edited the text to include this. Will this suffice? I basically would like the existing text replaced completely with the proposed text.
- "The awards could not be included because none of them appear to be independently notable" Thanks for sharing this wikipage. If you believe these awards don't warrant its own list, may I kindly ask for your advice on how I should present them? I believe these awards are well worth including since Forbes 5-Star Rating is arguably the highest award a hotel can receive, while the Michelin award, Travel + Leisure and Conde Nast Traveller are well regarded in the luxury hospitality industry as well.
- "The images for the London and Instanbul properties could not be added because the Wikilinks for the properties themselves were not provided." Do you mean links to each property's Wikipedia page or the links to the images? The links for the latter were provided. For the former, the Istanbul and London properties don't have their own Wikipedia pages yet. Is it possible to include the images without linking until these pages are created?
- "Logos cannot be added to the article until they are uploaded and approved by Wikimedia Commons." The wikimedia commons link was already provided. Is there another step I need to take to have them approved?
- I didn't realise the COI request (entitled "New COI Edit Request") was hidden and you had to press [Show] to view it. I undid this so that it wouldn't be mixed up with my earlier COI edit request (entitled "Edit Request") JTThornBridge (talk) 06:55, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Btw, I'll submit a new edit request based on your feedback on how to improve this submission. Thanks again! JTThornBridge (talk) 07:00, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
Edit Request - July 2023
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi! I'm an employee at The Peninsula Hotels, and I have been tasked to kindly request the following edits. These edits are based on the feedback given in my previous request that was declined.
All feedback is much appreciated. Thank you!
1. History section
It's missing some locations and I believe could be worded better. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below.
Proposed text to be deleted: "Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited was incorporated in 1866.
Proposed text to replace deleted text: "The Peninsula Hotels is one of Asia’s oldest hospitality companies.[1] The origins of its corporate parent, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, was incorporated in 1866.[2] The first Peninsula hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1928[3] overlooking Victoria Harbour, where it became known as “The Grande Dame of the Far East,”[4] and where it still stands as the company’s flagship property.
2. Awards and achievements section
I'd like to update our awards, and suggest a list format to be comprehensive and include all locations. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below:
"The Peninsula Hotels has received many awards across its properties. In 2019, it was the first brand to achieve Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Status across its entire portfolio.[6] In 2022, it was featured in Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards for "The 25 Best Hotel Brands".[7]

[edit]Edit request partially implemented
- The text from the History section was not updated because items such as Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, as well as the individual hotels mentioned, were not Wikilinked. Please note that if WikiLinks exist, those Wikilinks must accompany the text in the edit request proposal.
- The awards section was not added because the awards listed are not independenly notable in Wikipedia.
- Certain images were added, while others were not:
- The image for the Peninsula Istanbul was added to the article.
- The image for the Peninsula London was not added, because the hotel is not yet open.
- The logo was not added, because the Wikimedia data entered by the uploading editor indicated that the logo's trademark belongs to the uploading editor. The trademark can only belong to the company whose logo it represents.

Edit Request - July 2023 2.0
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi! I'm an employee at The Peninsula Hotels, and I have been tasked to kindly request the following edits. These edits are based on the feedback given in my previous request that was declined.
All feedback is much appreciated. Thank you!
1. History section
It's missing some locations and I believe could be worded better. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below.
Proposed text to be deleted: "Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited was incorporated in 1866.
Today, The Peninsula Hotels operates across 11 major cities with The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Peninsula Shanghai, The Peninsula Beijing, The Peninsula Tokyo, The Peninsula New York, The Peninsula Chicago, The Peninsula Beverly Hills, The Peninsula Paris, The Peninsula Istanbul, The Peninsula Bangkok, and The Peninsula Manila. In September 2023, the company will add The Peninsula London to its portfolio.[5]'
2. Recognition
I'd like to include a new section called "Recognition", which follows a similar format to the Four Seasons' "Critical reception" section.
Proposed body text:
"In 2019, The Peninsula Hotels was the first brand to achieve Forbes Five-Star status across its entire portfolio.[6] The Peninsula Beverly Hills has held both the Forbes Five Star Hotel rating and the AAA Five Diamond Hotel rating for over 25 Consecutive Years.[7] The Peninsula New York and The Peninsula Chicago have also achieved the AAA Five Diamond Award.[8] [9]
In 2022, Travel + Leisure magazine readers voted The Peninsula Hotels as one of the "Best Hotel Brands in the World".[10] Travel + Leisure magazine named The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Peninsula Shanghai, The Peninsula Istanbul and The Peninsula Manila among "The Top 100 Best Hotels in the World".[11] [12] [13] [14] In recent years, The Peninsula Shanghai, The Peninsula Beijing and The Peninsula Chicago were recognized on the "Best Hotels in the World Gold List" by Condé Nast Traveller magazine.[15] [16] [17]
Restaurants at The Peninsula Hotels have been recognized by the Michelin Guide. Two Michelin Stars were awarded to L'Oiseau Blanc Restaurant in The Peninsula Paris[18], One Michelin Star to Spring Moon[19] and Gaddi's[20] in The Peninsula Hong Kong, One Michelin Star to Sir Elly's[21] and Yi Long Court[22] in The Peninsula Shanghai and One Michelin Star to Jing at The Peninsula Beijing.[23]"
3. Gallery section & Profile logo
The logo needs to be updated and "Source" has been updated to indicate trademark belongs to the company.

[edit]- Thank you for adding the WikiLinks to the hotels. As there is already a section of the article which contains a listing of the hotels, we can either have the listing be in the text of the article (as prose) similar to what you've proposed—in which case the existing list would be deleted—or keep the list as it exists now. Per MOS:EMBED, the short length of the article argues against having both at the same time. Please advise on which you would prefer.
- The logo needs to be re-uploaded under a new license. I would suggest using this license. When beginning the uploading process, be sure to click on "non-free file" rather than "upload your own file for free use".
- As the awards are not notable in Wikipedia, they cannot be added to the article. The best location for the business to publicise the awards and merits it has garnered is on its own website, not on Wikipedia.
- When the new logo has been uploaded under the correct license (and when you've decided which description of the hotels you would prefer) please return to this page and reactivate a new edit request below this post.

Edit Request - Aug 2023

Hi! I'm an employee at The Peninsula Hotels, and I have been tasked to kindly request the following edits. These edits are based on the feedback given in my previous request that was declined. Thank you!
1. History section
It's missing some locations and I believe could be worded better. I suggest replacing the existing text with the below.
Proposed text to be deleted: "Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited was incorporated in 1866.
In September 2023, the company will add The Peninsula London to its portfolio.[5]
2. The Peninsula Signature Events --- PROPOSED NEW SECTION
Proposed text to be added:
Each year during Monterey Car Week, The Peninsula Hotels hosts three events at The Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel California: The Best of the Best Awards, The Quail Rally, and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.[6]
Created in 2015 by The Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie, William E. Connor, Bruce Meyer and Christian Philippsen[7], the Best of the Best Award is given to a winner from the previous season’s concours d’elegance competitors after a rigorous appraisal by a panel of judges, which include Jay Leno and Ralph Lauren.[8]
The Quail Rally is a three-day driving journey that begins in Carmel, California through Sonoma and Napa Valley’s wine country.[9] Launched in 1997, The Quail Rally is an invitation only three‐day, vintage-car drive preceding The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The drive raises money for local and national charitable organisations.[10]
Following The Quail Rally, The Quail Motorsport Gathering is held on the golf course at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California. The event is attended by motorsports enthusiasts and collectors from around the world to view rare collections of fine automobiles and motorcycles in a garden-party setting.[11]
3. Commitments to Sustainability
The Peninsula Hotels has made commitments towards sustainability. In 2012, the company made headlines for issuing a ban on their menus to no longer serve shark fin soup, which is traditionally a popular delicacy in China.[12][13] In 2015, The Peninsula Tokyo became EarthCheck certified, first luxury hotel in Japan.[14] In 2017, The Peninsula Beijing became BREEAM accredited after meeting the programme’s sustainability assessment.[15]
4. Addition to the existing table
I see that the number of rooms for The Peninsula Shangai in the table is missing. The number of rooms is 235. source: https://www.fivestaralliance.com/luxury-hotels/shanghai/the-peninsula-shanghai
5. Change of logo
Please replace the existing logo with this one: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Peninsula_Logo.png

[edit]Edit request partially implemented
- The proposed changes for the History section were not implemented because:
- The "proposed text to be deleted" was not an accurate description of the text currently in that section.
- The "proposed text to replace deleted text" contained a listing of hotels which already exists in other parts of the article. As stated in an earlier review, The listing of hotels can either stay as a table format or in prose, but the COI editor must choose which can remain, because both cannot.
- The Peninsula signature events were not added per WP:NOTPROMO, and because the events themselves are not independently notable.
- The "commitments to sustainability" section was added to the article because the two certifications were independently notable, and the news regarding shark fin soup was referenced by panda.org.
- The logo was not updated because it does not contain the correct non-free use license. The file must be re-uploaded under non-free use.

Please replace the existing page logo with this one. Thank you very much for your patience.
I would also like to edit the History section to make it worded better and add more information.
Text to be deleted: "Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited was incorporated in 1866. The company became engaged in real estate, acquiring land properties, and opened The Peninsula Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui in 1928."
Text to replace the deleted text: The Peninsula Hotels is one of Asia’s oldest hospitality companies.[1] The origins of its corporate parent, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited, was incorporated in 1866.[2] The first Peninsula hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1928[3] overlooking Victoria Harbour, where it became known as “The Grande Dame of the Far East,”[4] and where it still stands as the company’s flagship property."

- Implemented The logo was updated. Other elements of the request, such as mentioning the main peninsula Hotel and the date of incorporation of the parent company, are already in the article. Claims about being the oldest hospitality company are spurious and cannot be backed by any reliable sources. Those claims are already made on the wiki article for the hotel itself. This is the article on the parent company. Regards, Spintendo 14:38, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

COI Edit Request June 2024
[edit]Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hello, full disclosure I work for The Peninsula Hotels.
Remove: "The Peninsula Hotels have been criticised by campaigners[20] for the continued use of eggs from battery-caged hens across their hotel locations"
Reason: The source of the sentence links to an invalid website and a highly biased source "peninsulahotelscruelty.com". There are no alternative sources online to back the claim up either, and only articles that refer to the company's pledge to use cage-free eggs (which are included in this Wiki page).
Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
