Light novel section
I found it funny that the whole article, which was based on the light novel of the same name, wasn't even mentiond except for a small reference to the Suzumiya Haruhi series, so I included a section. Now all we need is a section for the manga and we're set.--Juhachi 19:27, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and added the manga section as well.--Juhachi 19:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- But doesn't that make the whole Suzumiya Haruhi article redundant? _dk 01:17, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Not at all since the Light novel section in this article is only there for the info on the first novel, not all the others. This article is called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya afterall, so anything with that name should at least be mentioned here, right? Unless you only want to make this article about the anime, then that I would understand and we'd have to add (anime) at the end of the article title to denote the article scope.--Juhachi 01:08, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Template:Haruhi Suzumiya
I just created and added the template Haruhi Suzumiya at the end of the article, and it's wide open for editing to whoever thinks they can improve it.--Juhachi 01:09, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Oricon charts
I'm not sure when, but Sunny Sunny Fun's peak at the Oricon's is #1, not #2.

Three years ago...
In episode 7 Kyon thinks for him self that Haruhi isn't going to talk about what happen at Tanabata three years ago (at ~5:27). Does this have any thing to do with time quakes, data explosions etc? If it does, it should be mentioned in the article. Victor b04 01:48, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- That's probably just a reference to the data explosion 3 years ago that must have occured during Tanabata.--Juhachi 02:18, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- There is still no direct mention that the thing happen at Tanabata 3 years ago is related to timequake. It is still a speculation between fans. (As far as I know, according to the first 6 novels I have) --Leeyc0 03:34, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Weird, or something more
in episode 2 (i think), why does suzumiya haruhi tell kyon, "haven't i seen you before". i was thinking maybe there is an underlying story, in the past that kyon and haruhi met before and something big happened, and then three years later...
- It would be a spoiler if I tell you too much. But you made a almost correct guess :-). But unfortunately it seems that it will not be revealed in this season of the anime. --Leeyc0 03:30, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that's a spoiler to be found out later on in the series.--Juhachi 03:45, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- By the way, Wikipedia is not a place of discussing the story plot. --Leeyc0 03:56, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
- o thank you, i was always wondering about it, at least i know it has some meaning. (this anime is really awesome) there is some funny trivia, and thing ppl found in the show. (some ppl are way to serious too) [1] -- SAMEGUY who began this thread, its 7:02pm right now (UTC)

SOS-logo?
Does anyone agree that the logo in the article is the first "dangerous" version of the logo and not the final? Didn't the final say ZOZ-dan? Victor b04 19:19, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- That is the final version and it does say ZOZ; can't you see it? Anyway, I uploaded the pic myself, so I think I'd know. If you want more proof, that same logo appears at the beginning of episodes 1 and 12.--Juhachi 20:19, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- I don't wonna start an edit war! But if you look at the one in ep 12, so can you se that de green line in the center, on the right side, is thin and not thick like your. The O in the center of the logo is more like a square in ep 12, instead of a nice a symetric shape. The kanji-symbol for "dan" is drawed with curly lines and not straight lines like in your logo. And over all does the logo in ep 12 looks more a sketch then what your logo does. Compare yourself and see the differences. Victor b04 22:09, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- The one in the article is clearly the final version: you only need to look at www.haruhi.tv to see this. Besides, it is obvious that it does not say `SOS Dan', because the lettering/kanji are clearly backwards (indicating the final, rather than first, version). Elric of Grans 23:27, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Here are the two versions of image (note: the Kanji "団" is in fact NOT inverted):

- I of course realize the one I got from haruhi.tv is not the one they use in the anime since Haruhi drew it herself and she did a rather bad job at it too. I chose to use the one at harhu.tv simply because it looked way better than the logos featured in the first and 12th episodes.--Juhachi 05:08, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Haruhi's Guitar Skillz
In the Haruhi description under Characters: "She is also rather talented with the electric guitar, as seen in episode 12, when even with little practice she was able to pull off an excellent performance..."
If I'm reading this correctly, this should not be completely true. As Haruhi states in episode 12, regarding on her guitar playing, "I wanted to play the actual guitar part too, but there wasn't enough time. I didn't want to take the risk. Learning the chords was all I could handle." implying that she's not that talented with the electric guitar, since Yuki did most of the guitar work that episode.--Kei-clone 09:49, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- A lack of time now translates to a lack of talent, apparently. 202.147.107.2 03:57, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. -Iopq 05:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Could anyone find a source to see if Aya Hirano actually played the guitar for that episode or if it was a ghost player? --SeizureDog 09:07, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- You mean if Haruhi played the guitar, or do you mean the actual seiyuu in the recording? And it wasn't Haruhi playing the electric guitar in the close-ups, since you can see Yuki's cape during the close-up scene. --Wirbelwind 01:09, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Watch teh scene, Yuki is the one ripping it up on electric guitar (in her wizard outfit), and no doubt as Kyon stated, she probably altered her data to make it possible.
Hauhi's performance was rather lucklaster, as far as guitar is concerned, as she was only following the chords (Any decent guitarist would've been able to do that from sheet music without an hour of practice). It could be said that she has *some* talent on guitar, but I wouldn't say "rather" talented --69.247.169.233 05:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, good point, but then what about only after a few practices learning all the lyrics and the chords; that's worth something right? -- (十八|talk) 08:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Possibly, although if you watch right after the first performance, when she's looking around disbeleivingly you can see a sheet on the music stand she had out. It looks like sheet music, with guitar chords on it, not typical notation. I'm not really a music wiz, all I have is a few years of lessons, and experience from helping setup bands, but it looks like she was using it as a guide. Although I didn't really see her look at it, it's possible she was. Or she could even have been faking it, I couldn't hear a second guitar in the music, although I wasn't listening *too* hard.
- I'd say she has a talent in singing, and possibly has some teaching in guitar. Of course, there's also the possibility Yuki altered Haruhi's data as well to keep her happy --69.247.169.233 11:44, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Methinks it's simply not worth mention, really. It goes with her umbrella of being really good at things in general (athletics, whatever). Mekryd 00:26, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Move the title to The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi
According to the Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(Japan-related_articles)#Names_in_titles, the name of a title should be kept in Eastern order (i.e. last name first). Therefore the title should be The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi instead. The novel article Suzumiya Haruhi (series) is already in Eastern style, so I would like to take this action to keep consistent. I would like to ask for any opinion before I take any action.
- See this screenshot [2], from the second episode, unsubbed. _dk 22:22, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't notice there is an "official" translation available in episode 2 even I watched this episode. Just forget the guideline then. (By the way, the same title appeared in episode 14.) --Leeyc0 10:48, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- While the title includes the name of a character, it is not a "person" but the title of the anime, so it really doesn't fall under that guideline. I don't feel strongly either way, but I thought I would point that out. -- Ned Scott 06:17, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Time to review the article?
As the amine series has ended, it may be a high time to review the article. The article may already contains too many non-important matters (especially for the Character section - Haruhi). Also, we may need to copyedit some sections to Suzumiya Haruhi (series), since the contents in this article applies to the novel too. (In fact I feel better to merge the two articles since many things overlap, but the consensus in previous discussion is to keep seperate. I respect this consensus.) --Leeyc0 07:30, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- Here is my proposed edit. (Any discussion should be put here, don't put comments in my sandbox discussion page. Thanks.) --Leeyc0 08:35, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think it's premature to start a 'review and rewrite' process on the article. This is really only suitable on articles that require heavy editing or correction. You should edit and correct the page as normal. --Barberio 12:43, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Media
The Media sectino feels... out of place, to me. Methinks the 'Media' section (excluding the subsections for the "Anime" section, but including the anime subsection itself) should be moved to the Novel series article. Mekryd 16:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Blue Giants? Avatars? Shinjin? Celestials?
Okay, now. What is the proper term for the giant blue rampaging resident of closed space? I'm pretty sure the Japanese term was 神人, shinjin, meaning 'Godlike Man'. The fansubs say <Celestials> and the article blandly calls them "Blue Giants." Roanhammer 08:08, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- The anime says shinjin also, at least when Itsuki refers to them in episode 13, I believe it was. But yes, they do say Shinjin. --Wirbelwind 09:03, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, shin could be blue or god, I'm not sure which term they used in the manga/novel, as I do not have either. Can anyone with the manga/novel confirm the actual name of the giants? --Wirbelwind 09:08, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- But just look at the kanji - 神人. It literally can be translated as "God person", so calling them "Blue Giants" I think is a mistranslation. 十八 15:58, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, when I did the article, I had it as "Avatars", from the translation project on the novel. If you look at the meanings for avatar, it fits, ish. Someone went in and replaced it all with "Blue Giant", though. Mekryd 16:16, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- If you ask me, it seems like "titan" would be a good translation of 神人. --SeizureDog 07:10, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- A few days later* Soooo... what are we going to do about the one remaining large flaw in the article? Mekryd 15:42, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- There are three options to translate it, one is word-by-word tranation (which would be "Godlike Man"; the second one is to choose a existing English word which most fits it (Avatar or Titan); the last one is to keep it as a proper noun, that is, just call it Shinjin. I would propose to keep its original meaning, i.e. word-by-word tranalation, since there may be some subtle points behind the word 神人 which is not revealed. Treat is as a proper noun is another good option, and we can tell the readers the meaning of the Japanese 神人 in the section. --Leeyc0 16:47, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- I think it would do as well to just call then Shinjin, as long as the term is explained when it is first used. Shiroi Hane 15:59, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with calling them "shinjin" (remember to keep foreign words in italics). It follows the norm set by using "shinigami" instead of "death god" in most articles.--SeizureDog 21:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Much like on the talk page for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, I have made a userbox especially for Haruhi fans:

code: {{User:Shiroi Hane/Userboxes/SOS Dan}}
- I don't think anyone other than myself has ever used it. Shiroi Hane 15:47, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Theme songs
I think there's too much info under the theme song section, especially since they all link to the singles which shows all the same info. Maybe all but the singer(s) should be removed and the rest of the info can be on the linked pages? It also looks a bit bad to me because everything's in red, which is the main reason why I wanted to remove it. --Wirbelwind 00:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with that. There's too much nonessential info which is already on the main articles for the songs. -- (十八|talk) 01:54, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Voice Actors
I think that they should be marked as voice actors, not Seiyu or whatever. This is the English wikipedia. If an English version of Haruhi is released, then change it to "japanese voice actor" and "english voice actor"
In exchange, we could have their proper japanese names alongside their romaji name. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.247.169.233 (talk • contribs) 23:24, 23 July 2006 UTC.
- First, sign your comments after you post one. Second, it is already widely accepted that seiyū be used to denote the Japanese voice actors, especially if the series has not been dubbed in English. Also, voice actor is usually used to denote the English dub voices of the characters.
- Also, on your last comment, there's no need to clutter the page with their kanji names when the romaji works just fine and they link to their respective pages anyway this way. -- (十八|talk) 05:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Computer Club President's name
- all that is known is the first and last syllables of his name, both being "ya"
I don't recall their ever saying the last syllable of his name, did they? I thought in the anime, it was Ya(and some other noises cover the rest) and it ends there? This is pure speculation on my part but I thought it didn't end with a ya because I remember thinking maybe his name was the unspoken name YHWH (note again: my speculation). Thus, I was wondering where you hear the last syllable of his name. --Wirbelwind 01:23, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I reviewed the episode; you're right about just the single 'ya'. Changing it. (Must have misunderstood what that said in the past...) --Crisu 03:29, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Question Marks
Is this only me, or have all of the Kanji in the article been replaced with question marks? Mekryd 02:26, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
