The Lizard lifeboat station

[edit]

Hi Stavros, well done with The Lizard lifeboat station. I have now corrected the long and lat coords to point to the station in the cove. Re you familiar with this tool http://pagesperso-orange.fr/universimmedia/geo/loc.htm for finding accurate coords? Andy F (talk) 13:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andy F
Thank you for correcting the coords for The Lizard Lifeboat Station article and for your contribution to the article. I don’t mind admitting I have had problems with coords and getting them correct. The tool you put me on to will be very helpful, thanks for that. I see from your talk page that you are a member of the WikiProject Cornwall. I have contributed many articles on Lifeboats and the RNLI, especially in the Norfolk and East Anglia area were I live. I am very surprised on how few articles there are concerning this subject around the rest of the county. Cornwall in particular has a rich heritage in this area, as I sure you are aware. I was surprised how little information there is on the lifeboats and stations around the coast of Cornwall. I hope this article will initiate some interest in contributors adding more information on this subject to Wikipedia. This topic in Norfolk has a useful Navigation Template (Here) which has prompted others to Contribute. I wondered if some one within the WikiProject Cornwall could create a similar template so as to kick start some interest. My knowledge of Cornish Lifeboat stations, Active or closed, is some what limited to be able to create a template myself.

[edit]

I lack the knowledge of how to do this but the current picture is of the fourth station which is now demolished. Could somebody with the knowledge of how to d so update the image to a picture of the new station 217.44.26.225 (talk) 00:11, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is there an image of the present station on Wikimedia Commons? If so, let me know which it is - it will be a simple task to swop them over. Geof Sheppard (talk) 14:02, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lifeboat list

[edit]

This is just a list of boats that is uncoordinated with the actual article. The details are better included in the article's sections on the individual lifeboat stations rather than lumped into one table where they have no context. See what to avoid as per WP:LIST.

Motor lifeboats

ON is the RNLI's official number. Op.No. is the number displayed on the boat

Fleet
Dates in service Class ON Op. No. Name
1919–1920 38ft Self-righter ON 628 Sir Fitzroy Clayton
1920–1934 38ft Self-righter ON 657 Frederick H. Pilley
1934–1960 41ft Watson-class ON 769 Duke of York
1960–1984 52ft Barnett-class Mk.II ON 952 The Duke of Cornwall (Civil Service No.33)
1984–1987 48ft 6in Oakley-class Mk.II ON 989 48-02 James and Catherine MacFarlane
1987–1988 Solent-class ON 1008 48-005 James and Mariska Joicey
1988–2011 Tyne-class ON 1145 47-030 David Robinson
2011–present Tamar-class ON 1300 16-20 Rose
As noted before this is just a list of boats that were used around the lizard. There is no concurrency with which station they operated. Its like adding list to every railway station and saying at some point these famous trains passed through them. Lists like this need to be avoided when there are multiple entries. If they are to added. Add them to the relevant section pertaining to the relevant station.31.51.45.242 (talk) 20:02, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
