Description
[edit]Is this just the studio plot synopsis? Definitely reads like a description by someone who has not seen the movie... --Gothamgazette 09:43, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, this entire article is mega short. The movie is absolutely amazing, and this article just shot it to hell. I was hoping to find some behind the scenes, the style chosen, background, how the actors felt about it... It honestly feels much bigger than what I'm finding here... guess it's up to somebody. Neveos (talk) 02:56, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, this was written by someone who hasn't seen the movie...the reference to the Three Musketeers is not said by Amanda about her and her parents, but by Olivia about the sisters and Graham. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.240.137.21 (talk) 19:49, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Actually they both say it, which is the point: Graham knows that it's a raw phrase for Amanda and reassures her with a touch. Jmchutchinson (talk) 20:15, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Title
[edit]This movie is now titled The Holiday. Someone should change this article. Thanks.Bremen 08:58, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- It's moved. Thanks!

Requested move
[edit]The Holiday (2006 film) → The Holiday – There's no other film with the title "The Holiday," so a disambig is unneeded. Right now, the space for "The Holiday" is occupied by a redirect to the Secularization of Christmas article, a redirect that doesn't make any sense. Crumbsucker 09:58, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

- Oppose. The title is not so uncommon.--Semioli 13:08, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- What else is named "The Holiday"? Nothing notable on Wikipedia, or else the space would be occupied by an article. See the page for The Unit. A disambig is not needed since there's nothing else with the title. Note: This voter just began contributing on Wikipedia yesterday. Crumbsucker 11:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- 1) See Talk:Winning (film). 2) If you want to say something, say it straight, don't put ambiguous notes. I have the right to vote just like you.--Semioli 15:36, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Alternative Move?
[edit]The above move was proposed on the basis that there were no other films of the same name but The Holiday (film) doesn't seem to have been considered as an option.
I don't know if any of these are notable but there are numerous books with the name according to a library search (e.g.: Erica James (who is a well known author), 2000; Constantine Fitzgibon, 1953; E.M. Crothers, 1921; Annie Mac, 1984; Guy Bellamy, 1996; Richmal Crompton, 1933; Dacia Maeraina [in Italian, translated 1968]; Michael Morley, 1926; Florence Margarent Smith [under pseudonym, Stevie smith], 1949; Carola Oman, 1928; K. Skelton, 1985; Roderick Hunt; Eric John Bamford; C. Lenanton), two newspapers (in Philidephia and Bangladesh). There is also The Holiday Album by Miracles; I don't know whether it is called The Holiday ever.

- I'm guessing none of those are nearly as notable as this movie with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law and Kate Winslet, etc. Therefore, it should still be the main article with the others disambiguated. —Wknight94 (talk) 01:04, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- I hadn't heard of the movie either, but looking at Google and the pages on these books, some are probably notable but nowhere near as much as the film, so I agree. I just noticed the books when you were about to move and thought it best to mention it, anyway.

I've done some editing to make it shorter! Don't worry, I've seen the movie. Dreamer893
Attempted Edits
[edit]While attempting to clean up some of the grammar and confusing/unprofessional wording of this article, I was unable to save due to a "blacklisted link". Unfortunately, I haven't got an abundance of experience in attempting article edits, and I don't know how to remove it. I myself added no links, so I'm assuming that there was a link put it originally that later became blacklisted. 156.34.74.65 12:57, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- That's probably correct. Did you find out what link it was? JFW | T@lk 22:23, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
This article is really terrible. "Grossing $205,135,175 worldwide led The Holiday to become a financial success." I haven't seen the movie, but someone ought to do a full cleanup. (I fixed the sentence above.)76.27.140.208 (talk) 04:31, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Spielberg?
[edit]Does Spielberg also have a cameo? There's a bloke sitting behind Kate & Jack at the Writer's Guild ceremony that was either selected for his likeness or is actually big Steve doing a cameo. JFW | T@lk 22:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
Kissing?
[edit]Does the article really need the number of times and where the characters kiss? soldierx40k 02:12, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Trivia
[edit]I've removed Trivia and Goofs sections from the article, even those that could be source are of questionable notability but I include them here just in case anyone really wants to work on them and find good sources and try to re-include them in the article. -- Horkana (talk) 14:24, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
- Errors
In the house swap website the Union Flag (for the whole of the United Kingdom) is erroneouslyshown as being the flag of England instead of the St. Georges Cross. [1]
Inone scene, Amanda is sitting in bed watching Little Britain onBBC1 when an advertisement comes on. The BBC ispublicly-funded, and therefore does not air advertisements.
WhenIris (Kate Winslet) is driving Arthur (Eli Wallach) home, heasks her what part of England she is from. She says "Surrey",to which he replies "Cary Grant was from Surrey" and explains heknows this because Cary Grant told him once. He was actually fromBristol, some 100 miles to the west of Surrey
- Trivia
This article contains a list of miscellaneous information. (January 2010) |
- Eli Wallach's character Arthur Abbott (a Hollywood screenwriter)described a meet-cute by saying "Say a man and a womanboth need something to sleep in and both go to the same men's pajama department. The man says to the salesman, I just need bottoms, and the woman says, I just need a top. They look at each other and that's the meet-cute." It's a reference to the film Bluebeard's EighthWife (1938) by Ernst Lubitsch with Claudette Colbert andGary Cooper, and the writers Charlton Andrews, Charles Brackett,Alfred Savoir and BillyWilder.[2]
- The movie Iris chooses when looking through Amanda's DVDs is Punch-Drunk Love, the Two Disc SpecialEdition.[3]
- The classic movie that Kate Winslet is watching - after Arthur Abbott's (Eli Wallach) recommendation - is His Girl Friday, a 1940 screwball comedy starring Cary Grant as a newspaper editor who attempts tokeep his ex-wife and fellow reporter (played by Rosalind Russell)from marrying someone else.
- The first location that Cameron Diaz's character clicks on for a vacation location - The Cotswolds - is the region in which Kate Winslet lives in real life.
- Miles' removal of an eyelash from Iris' eye is a subtle nod to the film Brief Encounter, in which Alec removes a bit of grit from Laura's eye in the same fashion.

Vandalism
[edit]In recent occassions i have detected quite a substantial amount of vandalism arising within the page. Should we possibly attempt to lock the page. Most of the vandalism is comming from IP Adresses and not wikipedia users. A semi lock could possibly be a solution to this issue.

Soundtrack incomplete
[edit]After looking at the movie, we wanted to find out the title of the last, final song. The soundtrack of this article was of no help. As we found out otherwise, the last song is You Send Me by Aretha Franklin. Why is this song not in the "official" soundtrack?--
Affirmation of an error noted in TRIVIA
[edit]Even though it's a movie, I had taken the line about Carey Grant being from Surrey at face value. Then, in an episode of Match Game 77, Richard Dawson happened to mention that Carey Grant is from Bristol. I followed up, verifying the Bristol and Surrey are distinctly different places, and that Carey Grant is indeed from Bristol, according to the reference to Grant in Wikipedia. 2600:1014:B002:C471:8CD8:76E4:38A:DFB8 (talk) 21:46, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
