I think the final sentence, that The Gaer House is now The Gaer Inn, is incorrect The Gaer was a large house where Lansdowne Road now stands, which served as a Gwent College for Boys, a boarding school, in the 20th century. The Gaer Inn was previously known as Gaer-Fach and was a farmhouse (aerial view at [1]). Potentially there could have been two buildings called The Gaer and The Gaer House, but I think the evidence is that this article does not refer to the building that is now The Gaer Inn.
The map at [2] shows Gaer-Fach, which is where The Gaer Inn is now, and also shows a large house where Lansdowne Road is now, with its drive opposite Cae Brynton Road.
The school is documented at [3], with pictures at [4].
There are lodges still remaining at either end of Gaer Road; they refer to Gaer Fach again but I think again that the lodges are for the house that became the boarding school: [5], [6]
Further evidence that The Gaer House is not Gaer Fach/The Gaer Inn: the 1901 Directory of Monmouthshire [7] shows Charles D. Phillips (as named in this article) at The Gaer, and Henry Duckham at Gaer Fach. There is also an advertisement from 1898 placed by H Duckham of Gaer Fach for a man experienced with stock and horses to work on a grass farm [8] (advert near bottom right of final advertisement section).
