I'm not comfortable with adding my own edits, but perhaps someone with better writing skills can add a reference to the world wide computer network described in this book. Long before the Internet, Clark envisioned something very similar to the real world Google and 'intelligent agents' Where some abstract computer cloud network could be used to search for keywords and make a customized 'news paper'
I think that was original enough to be worth mentioning in this article.
University 'gopher' and so on were around at this time and are the real fore-runners of the 'web as we know it today. Also, such global-computing networks have been used in sci-fi for decades - it would be hard-pressed to prove Clarke envisioned such before anyone else. He still gets credit for the communication satellite idea! HammerFilmFan (talk) 16:10, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have split the plot into a summary and a detailed subsection. Also, because the plot is driven entirely by technology and sociology while eschewing character development, I have eliminated the Characters section which didn't seem to add anything. Anyone disapprove? Hungrydog55 (talk) 13:24, 12 May 2018 (UTC)hungrydog55[reply]
