Notability
[edit]Debate over the Notability tag. From the Wikipedia:Notability (music):
- Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself.
- The band has been the subject of multiple news articles from multiple cities, including newspapers, TV news, and national radio coverage, and their own reality show.
- Has received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country.
- They have headlined multiple Oktoberfest celebrations in the US every year, references cited in article. For Polka music, headlining an Oktoberfest is like an indie rock band headlining South by Southwest or Lollapalooza, as some fests have 30,000+ people in attendance.
- Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.
- They are one of of the most prominent modern Polka bands in the country, and the most prominent Polka band in Cleveland, which is one of the most notable town for polka music with a whole sub-genre named after the city. This is demonstrated in linked references.
- Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award.
- There is no more Polka Grammys, so the closest thing to it in America is the Polka Hall of Fame awards, for which the band was nominated for Best New Original Song in 2011 and Band of the Year in 2013, cited in the article.
- Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or TV network.
- Again, they were featured on Here and Now (NPR) and had a 16-episode reality show Polka Kings entirely based off of them on Reelz.
However, because Polka is currently such a niche genre of music, I could see why notability might be called into question. I am somewhat impartial as I am from Cleveland and a fan of the band, so I will let others decide. Lefton4ya (talk) 15:39, 27 March 2016 (UTC), updated 11:42, 31 March 2016 (EST)
