I'll conduct the review of this article. Seattle (talk) 13:42, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Comments
- No dead links. Reference seven and reference one appear to be from the same domain; I'm sure there's a reason for the different work parameters.
- Can you be specific, I've fixed one that wasn't consistent. Were there others? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- The lead doesn't sufficiently summarize the article. The lead should represent all parts of the article, and now it only represents second paragraph of the "background" section and the last sentence of the "race" section.
- Expanded a little, can you specify what more you'd like in there, if you still feel it to be lacking? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- See my reply at Talk:The Boat Race 2007/GA1.
- Expanded a little, can you specify what more you'd like in there, if you still feel it to be lacking? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- The pre-race preparation was notable... If it wasn't notable we wouldn't include it... in the same vain as Wikipedia:It should be noted.
- Re-writ. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- with the winner being awarded the Ladbrokes Trophy. I don't think we need "being" here at all. In fact the whole sentence could go without the passive.
- More active. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- On 7 March 1983, Cambridge issued a statement suggesting that they Preferable to "it" here instead of "they" as the university is singular.
- A nuance of British English I'm afraid. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Can you give a sentence for the history of the women's race and the reserve race in the "Background" section? Can you clarify what the "reserve" race is?
- A sentence or note on Dark Blue v Light Blue would be contextual.
- The two crews were the heaviest in Boat Race history, Oxford averaging 14 stone 8 lbs per rower Link "stone", and convert to kg
- Cambridge won the toss and elected to start from the Surrey station. You put quotes around "Surrey" in The Boat Race 2007. Which is it?
- Dequoted. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Can you link either "Isis" or "Goldie"?
- Goldie has an article, thus linked, Isis not, therefore not at this time. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- The winning time and length should be noted in the "race" section.
- Cambridge won the toss and elected to start from the Surrey station. Certainly the coin toss deserves a sentence in the "background" section, along with the two possible stations.
- No, I think the background is just for broad details. The more in-depth details such as stations, coin toss protocol etc is better served in the main article. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
That's my review. Some of these comments can transfer to the other Boat Race articles, fix or edit them there as well; it will save some time on both our parts. Seattle (talk) 16:44, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Seattle: Thanks, I've done my best to get to most of these and have commented in-line. Best for us both if we get this and the 2007 article sorted out before you conduct any other reviews. Thanks so much for taking the time and interest to help in reviewing these articles, very much appreciated. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- The new file checks out OK in terms of copyright. Seattle (talk) 00:33, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Seattle: Ok, I've tidied up a little and expanded the lead a touch more. What do you think? The Rambling Man (talk) 06:58, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- The infobox has "2 April 1983" as the date but the text has "22 April 1983". Other than that, the article looks good. Seattle (talk) 12:00, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Weird. Anyway, fixed. Thanks again! The Rambling Man (talk) 12:43, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
