I'll conduct the review of this article. Seattle (talk) 13:41, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Comments:
- No dead links, references are formatted correctly, checked references two and nine to verify claims. In reference two the article states with millions more tuning in around the globe while article states followed throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide. There's a difference between "followed" and "tuning in"; followed to me implies followed throughout the year, "tuning in" is only for the race itself.
- Added a link to demonstrate the global broadcasting and tweaked the wording. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- File:Finish of 2007 Oxford-Cambridge boat race.JPG needs an information template at the Commons; certainly no requirement, save for pride's sake.
- I'll see what I can do, but I frequent Commons as often as I do Hades. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- commons:Template:Information isn't too bad to fill out, but I won't hold it against the review if you chose not to incorporate it.
- I'll see what I can do, but I frequent Commons as often as I do Hades. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Should File:Oxford-University-Circlet.svg have the "trademark" tag as File:University of Cambridge coat of arms official.svg has?
- A good question, but once again, I'm no expert in that field. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'd ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. I'd guess that the template would be necessary but I'm far from an expert.

- The lead doesn't sufficiently summarize the article. The lead should represent all parts of the article, and now it only represents the "race description" section.
- Not strictly true, it covers the most important parts of the crew section too. What would you suggest I add? The Rambling Man (talk) 17:41, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Some combination of the first and second sentences in the "Background" paragraph would fit nicely for the second sentence of the lead. Other than that, it looks like a good summary.

- Lead:in a time of 17 minutes 46 seconds. Infobox: Winning time: 17 minutes 49 seconds. Which is it?
- Made consistent. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Can you give a sentence for the history of the women's race and the reserve race in the "Background" section? Can you clarify what the "reserve" race is?
- Done this, nice idea. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:51, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Infobox gives an overall record of 79–73 but article gives an overall record of 78–73.
- Infobox gives the record post-race, article is describing the record pre-race, hence its inclusion the Background section. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Oxford won the toss and selected the "Surrey" side of the river. Certainly the coin toss deserves a sentence in the "background" section, along with the two possible stations.
- Not really, the whole process of the Boat Race should be contained in the main The Boat Race article, not in every individual article. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough.

- and in German Thorsten Engelmann, the heaviest rower ever. I'm not sure you can be "in" a nationality.
- No, you can't, but in the context of the sentence, it's fine, i.e. "In German Engelemann, they had the heaviest rower". I don't see an issue with that. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Oh, misread that.

- The coaches could be represented somewhere in the article, possibly in "Background" but maybe in "Crews".
- Can you find sources for this, or do you object to its addition? I found the other coach, Duncan Holland, from reference 11.
- Can you link Kieran West outside of the table? The "reaction" section is light on the whole, I'm sure a few more players conducted interviews after the race.
- Reference 11 has some reaction from the Cambridge coach.
- The "umpire" could be mentioned somewhere in the text as well.
- Currently finding no RS to name the umpire, so removing it from the infobox. Perhaps one day I'll have access to the historical newspapers that will allow me to add this information with suitable references. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:17, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'd comment it out from the text of the article as well, in that case, or move it to the talk page until a suitable reference is found.

- The "University" links redirect, I prefer "the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge."
- Redirects no longer. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- You don't link The Championship Course anywhere???
- Linked. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I much prefer the "Background" paragraph on The Boat Race 1983 to this article's parallel.
- Ok, well see what you think now. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
That's my review. Seattle (talk) 14:30, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Many thanks Seattle, I'll get to the comments as soon as I possibly can! Very much appreciated. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:49, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Seattle: Okay, I've made a start on the comments which I can fix instantly, I've made an enquiry to a kind editor who has dug out paywall sources for me regarding the others. If you could be kind enough to check the points I believe I've addressed, and hopefully in the meantime I'll be able to resolve the remaining issues. Thanks very much for your review(s) so far! The Rambling Man (talk) 21:19, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you for your efforts! In summation, the generic "Background" section in this article is ready for transfer to other Boat Race articles, at least from my perspective. It covers the major aspects of the race and its variants, just remain aware of these articles when 2015 comes along for the Women's Boat Race. I'd like to see a general sentence on the "background" section incorporated near the the second sentence of the lead. Add the parenthetical explanation of the Light Blue vs Dark Blue to all articles. Other than that, just be aware of any changes to the Infobox in copying, and that should be good to go. Seattle (talk) 00:00, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- One last note, File:Tom James MBE.jpg has copyright issues. The source indicates "© British Rowing 2014" at the bottom of the page, and I can't find evidence that the owner published the image into the public domain. You can request the owner publish the image under a WP-friendly license via OTRS, or just remove it. Seattle (talk) 00:00, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Seattle: Ok, I've expanded the lead a bit, commented out the umpire until I find a better source, expanded the reaction section, removed the dubious image, asked the question of the trademark licence template as you suggested. Is there anything else outstanding? The Rambling Man (talk) 07:19, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Resolved the trademark tag. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:28, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Looks good. Passing. Seattle (talk) 11:49, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
