The real meaning of 'The Boat'
[edit]Just below the surface of the superficial plot, lies the true story. The boat is teaching the fisherman a lesson. The Boat Aeolus is from Greek Mythology 'God of the Wind' And She certainly does have supernatural powers, to perform miracles, as only Gods can do. She doesn't get caught in a storm, She creates the storm, and performs many more 'supernatural acts' including releasing the fisherman's boat from it's secure position and somehow returning it to the fishing dock at the end of the movie. The Boat could easily have killed him,if it had wanted to, and yes, the Boat did have a mind of it's own, it controlled things, the fisherman didn't, and that was the lesson.
The Boat brought the fisherman home safely in the end and gave him his little fishing boat back. There's no point it teaching someone a lesson and then extinguishing them.
And the lesson wasn't just for the one man, but for mankind.
A small lesson for a man - a Giant lesson for mankind.
So what was the lesson?
The fisherman went out every day in his petrol driven little boat and took from the environment. What did he ever return to that environment? his waste. He urinated over the side of the Aeolus and the boat banged him on the head with the boom and them locked him in the toilet.
It deliberately collided with a huge Oil Tanker - the carrier of the raw material for global warming.
When he tried to escape on his makeshift raft, the boat rammed him forcing him to see the Dolphins in their natural environment - that we are destroying.
What harm can one little fisherman do to the global environment? Well, it's not just one is it? there are seven Billion of us on this planet all doing our little bit of damage in one way or another and we need to be taught a lesson before it's too late. We should not carry on believing that we have dominion over the entire planet and everything on it, believing that our 'cleverness / intelligence will allow us to out wit nature,as the fisherman so often tried but fails to do; to control the environment whilst we continue to exploit it. We cannot, the environment ultimately controls us and we mess with it at our Peril.
The fisherman represented the whole of Mankind and the lesson is for all of us.
To me, this movie is genius, from the script to the single actor with hardly any lines, everything portrayed in such raw human form, the eyes, the face, the body language, the despair, the fear - pure genius! Cellar Conversion Expert (talk) 16:02, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
