Renamed shopping centre

[edit]

It seems Brentwood Town Centre has been renamed the Amazing Brentwood, or at least is marketing itself using that name. Should the article be changed to reflect that? Zacharycmango (talk) 04:23, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Support citing the name on the official website. We can start the renaming per WP:Consensus Exp691 (talk) 10:02, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moved per consensus seen below. Arguments against are noted, especially where uppercasing and including "The" is concerned; however, supporting arguments strongly lift the title to that proposed. Brentwood Town CentreThe Amazing Brentwood – "The Amazing Brentwood" is the name on the official website and it encompasses the entire mall as well as the surrounding development. • Do we think that's really the WP:COMMONNAME of the place? It's obviously a marketing name and it seems hard to believe that anyone who is not on the payroll would usually call it that in daily conversation. It might more commonly be called something like the "Brentwood Town Centre development". The sourcing in the article is rather thin – the only cited independent source is Daily Hive announcements about their grand (re-)opening in 2019 (before the reopening actually happened). Also, it might be good to consider omitting the "The" (see WP:THE). — BarrelProof (talk) 21:16, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If we're going off WP:COMMONNAME, I will bring up Metropolis at Metrotown: The official name is used in the article title, while the common name of "Metrotown" is mentioned in the lead. Exp691 (talk) 03:21, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible that should be fixed, then... the common name is and always has been "Metrotown". I'm guessing it may be at "Metropolis at Metrotown" because that's a natural-language way to disambiguate it.
With this one... ugh... Amazing Brentwood is clearly a marketing ploy. A local newspaper calling it "the Amazing blah" is not really indicative to me that that is it's the actual common name rather than just going along with the marketing to maintain good relations with developers.
Honestly looking at Brentwood (disambiguation), it should probably be at Brentwood (shopping mall) or Brentwood (shopping centre) or, as the article says, Brentwood Mall—hmmn, okay, that's a redirect. No one really uses the whole "Brentwood Town Centre" name as a common way of referring to it, either.
Well given the article and the existence of Brentwood Mall, I would say we move it to Brentwood Mall and make the lead:
Brentwood Mall (officially the Amazing Brentwood and previously Brentwood Town Centre) is a shopping mall in...Joeyconnick (talk) 18:28, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Use "Amazing Brentwood" without "The" per WP:DEFINITE, WP:THE.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  06:10, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The Amazing Brentwood per nom. Sources generally use the definite article and capitalise it in text, so it's a proper name.  — Amakuru (talk) 21:32, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
