Did he exist?
[edit]It is clear that there was never a person who went by "Tecun Uman"; thus there is debate as to whether this name refers to a single figure, a composite, or a primarily legendary figure. This article makes no mention of this (and, surprisingly, there is no article on es.wikipedia.org). I don't have the sources to hand, but this is a serious problem. Nonetheless, I'm adding him to the Pre-columbian template. --200.6.247.17 19:35, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed about the semi-legendary nature of this figure, who like other central american folk heroes of indigenous resistance against the conquistadores -Kayb'il B'alam, Lempira, Nicarao, etc- owes more to modern retelling and hagiography than actual historical documentation. While it is important to clearly delineate the fact from the myth (which the present article is yet to do), as a concept Tecun Uman and the others are important enough in contemporary Cent.Am. society and should be documented here.--cjllw | TALK 01:42, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

How Reliable is this Information?
[edit]A lot of what is discussed in this article has to do with the "legend" of Tecun Uman rather than the person himself. Resources (even secondary) need to be added to complete the link between Tecun Uman, the culture of the Maya, and the origins of where and why the conquistadors came to complete a more full picture of Tecun Uman "The Legend". As far as I'm concerned this article should be classified under folklore and not be taken as a realistic historical event that occurred in the past solely due to the lack of sources and documentation on Tecun Uman "The Man" himself.
