Note
[edit]Note:This page was created in response to criticism of a Pennsylvania teacher strike standalone page. Currently, many Pennsylvania school district pages have a lot of valuable (but duplicate) information that would be better served in aggregate pages such as this one. (Eg Montrose Area School District 2016 strike section information). Strikes seemed like a straightforward place to start. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Delphinium1 (talk • contribs) 17:06, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Delphinium1 this is fabulous and am very excited you created this and am happy to contribute to it. Seems education strikes had a peak in 1968-1980s and then again in 2018 with specific examples in between like the ones you mentioned in PA and the 2012 Chicago strikes. I'll try to add more overview of NEA/AFT relations too. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 17:57, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
Feedback from New Page Review process
[edit]I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Very nice article! Some more context could be provided in some cases, for example ban on teacher strikes either being specific, or related to ban on public sector employees striking. Technical terms like strike, collective agreements should be Wiki linked as well..

The 1987 onset date is incorrect. The strike began in the fall of 1986
[edit]The Homer, Illinois teachers strike was in the fall of 1986 and not ending until 1987. My mother was one of the teachers and my sister I were some of the students impacted by this. 98.48.98.181 (talk) 00:55, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. The way it had been written, "in 1987", didn't make it clear that it had started in 86 and comprised nearly the whole school year. I cited a better source and specified that it was an 8 month strike starting in October 1986. Alecnotalex (talk) 00:55, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
