Clive River → Te Awa o Mokotūāraro – Name of the river has been officially changed. The name "Clive River" now has no official status Rohivanion (talk) 11:08, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
- Comment Per WP:COMMONNAME "Although official, scientific, birth, original, or trademarked names are often used for article titles, the term or name most typically used in reliable sources is generally preferred." I wonder if Clive River may still be the name most typically used in reliable sources. However, this may change quickly now the official name has been altered.JohnmgKing (talk) 12:20, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
- Comment I've failed to find how it should be pronounced in English. Is it a good idea to use a name that has such a problem? --Martin Tauchman (talk) 15:34, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Martin Tauchman I'm not sure that is such a problem. Many articles for place names in New Zealand that are known primarily or exclusively by a Mãori name don't have a pronunciation guide. See, for example, Ōtorohanga. Rohivanion (talk) 19:12, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
- support as per nomination
- "Clive River" will of course remain a redirect page for anyone searching for it Somej (talk) 09:21, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: WP:OFFICIALNAMES. Just because a name is official does not mean that it is the WP:COMMONNAME. A name must be shown to be the common name before an article is moved. Simply being official is nowhere near enough of a justification. --Spekkios (talk) 10:45, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support per WP:NAMECHANGES. It is also a fairly small river - waiting around to see if it's the COMMONNAME may take awhile, while they're already updating official signage. SportingFlyer T·C 16:26, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support as there is a reliable source which states Te Awa o Mokotūāraro is now the new official name for Clive River. There are reasonable grounds to change article's title. The previous name should reflect that change with Clive River being a redirect in my opinion. NealeWellington (talk) 04:22, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
