Request name change

[edit]

This article should be re-named to Te Araroa (trail). As the article and links make clear, the name of the trail is simply Te Araroa. Snori (talk) 06:34, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this is true. The current title is a tautology, as in Maori, "Te" means "The, "Ara" means "Trail" and "Roa" means "Long". Therefore, the current title says "The long trail trail."

– This is clearly the primary topic. As page views show, the trail has views one magnitude higher than the town. Which is quite understandable, as the trail spans the length of New Zealand and has thus an international standing, whereas the town is a far-away place that most New Zealanders would never have been to. I'd be most happy to do the required clean-up work. https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&range=latest-20&pages=Te_Araroa Schwede66 23:09, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • I agree. The best name for this article (if there were no other clashes) would be "Te Araroa". It is occasionally referred to as "Te Araroa Trail" but it is not the most common name, and it is redundant, since "Araroa" means "long pathway". I also agree that it is more well known than the town and is the most likely topic people are looking for if they search for "Te Araroa". HenryCrun15 (talk) 01:24, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination and HenryCrun15. Anyone typing "Te Araroa" should arrive at the article for the trail. The town's entry can be easily accessed via a hatnote. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 03:25, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
