Lebanese village vs Palestinian village

[edit]

Tarbikha has always been recognized as a Lebanese or Jabal Amil village. It was part of the French Mandate of Lebanon before it was under the British mandate. [1]

lebanese citizenship

[edit]

On being granted Lebanese citizenship in 1994: Same sentences in book cited republished by author in Le Monde diplomatique:

Another means of reducing the refugee numbers is through selective naturalization. Official Lebanese policy and public opinion strongly reject Palestinian naturalization. However, recent moves by the Government suggest that Lebanon may be facing external pressure to do so. While no precise figures have been made public, estimates of the number of refugees naturalized are commonly bandied about in the refugee community. Over the past several years, 28,000-30,000 refugees have been naturalized, and, in Lebanese fashion, sectarian considerations have been in the forefront. In 1994, the first group to be naturalized were Shi’ites from seven border villages, who since 1948 had been classified as Palestinian refugees. A year later, an unknown number of Sunni refugees were able to obtain Lebanese citizenship. The few remaining Christian Palestinian refugees were also naturalized due to pressure from the Maronite establishment. Naturalization by sect seemed to assuage fears of demographic upset, although the Christians naturalized were very few.

Lebanese"

People from the 24 or 7 Lebanese villages who were later transfered under the authority of the British mandate were given Lebanese citizenship on the basis that they were originally considered Lebanese. All those whom were naturalized were naturalized on this basis. Lebanese bebe (talk) 19:31, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
