Merging

[edit]

Tajikistan-Afghanistan bridge at Panji Poyon Afghanistan-Tajikistan Bridge at Nizhniy Panj

Yes, the two entries need to be merged.Encyclops (talk) 19:45, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why?
Wikis are like databases. In a database the links between information are as important as the information itself. Merging related articles that can stand alone is a disservice to readers -- IMO.
  • It makes the watchlist less useful;
  • It makes the "what links here" button less useful;
Various other reasons.
Merging has its place. But simply because the two topics are related is far from a sufficient reason for a merge -- IMO.

In general I agree with you. Unfortunately these two entries are not just related, they refer to the same physical structure under two different names. Which is potentially confusing. Both names need to be mentioned, so people can find it, but ideally the information presented should be the same. Encyclops (talk) 05:10, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a clear instance of duplicated articles, so the merge should be uncontroversial. I've now done it.Mhockey (talk) 22:21, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
