Chiefs --> Mets content merge?
[edit]Would it not be proper to leave the Syracuse Chiefs page here and merge the proper content (last season's affiliation with the New York Mets and a brief history of the franchise) into a new Syracuse Mets article? StrikerforceTalk 20:01, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Pinging @C.Fred: as the user that made the Chiefs --> Mets move that I reverted, raising this question, for comment. StrikerforceTalk 20:02, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Strikerforce: Why? Do the Mets not retain the Chiefs' history? —C.Fred (talk) 20:03, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- The Chiefs page should be moved to Syracuse Mets. It's the same team with a new name. This is what we do when teams change names. NatureBoyMD (talk) 20:09, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
Requested move 16 October 2018

The result of the move request was: moved. (non-admin closure) KCVelaga (talk) 03:50, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
Syracuse Chiefs → Syracuse Mets – Constructively continuing the same franchise, so no need to split the article. Note that there was no split of the article when the club played in the Eastern League, nor is there a separate article for the SkyChiefs. Accordingly, the most appropriate name for the article is the current club name. —C.Fred (talk) 20:02, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not 100% sure that I agree, without diving deeper into precedent and policy. One exception of which I'm aware off the top of my head is the Peoria Rivermen. In their case, one continuous franchise - which is what we have here, in my interpretation - from 1996 to the current season - played in three different leagues. Each version (each league, in other words) currently has its own article. Having some experience around that article and franchise is what led me to raise the question here. Happy to discuss. StrikerforceTalk 20:06, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per nominator. This is what we do when teams change names. Recent examples include: New Orleans Zephyrs -> New Orleans Baby Cakes; Gwinnett Braves -> Gwinnett Stripers; Binghamton Mets -> Binghamton Rumble Ponies. (The same should have been done with the Peoria team mentioned.) NatureBoyMD (talk) 20:13, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Comment As an aside, the Peoria teams linked above are hockey teams, and falls under the purview of the Hockey Wikiproject, which prefers separate articles for team moves. (not sure which one you meant, since there are 4 articles at that link for 4 unrelated teams, but yes some have moved and each time acquired a new identity and article.) Teams that don't move and just get renamed, however, are usually kept as one article. (such as Hartford Wolf Pack). Just mentioning that since Peoria was invoked as an example, and that it isn't pertinent here since it's not baseball, and this article falls under the Baseball Wikiproject's purview, so do what you like here. Echoedmyron (talk) 20:33, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, then... no objection to the proposed move. It just seemed prudent, at first glance, to keep the Syracuse Chiefs as their own article and start a new Mets article with proper merging. StrikerforceTalk 21:33, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per nominator and precedent. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons -> Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees -> Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have undergone both affiliation and ownership changes yet are still covered in the same article. Waz8:T-C-E 02:19, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per nom, noting also that there are multiple MiLB AAA franchise changes this year -- may apply elsewhere, too. Would suggest that editors revising this article do so in draft form, first, for comment. Some key decisions on how to take into account historical perspectives. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 05:54, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per copious precedent. And before anyone mentions that we need to wait to see if the WP:COMMONNAME is the new team name (which I have seen argued before on such requests), WP:NAMECHANGES fully and thoroughly applies and supports a move. oknazevad (talk) 10:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support per nominator. As mentioned above, we should just keep this page and not split it. When the Mets changed their name from SkyChiefs to Chiefs back in late 2006, this page was renamed with no problems. So why should we change it? It's kinda useless to put a new team name and then talk about splitting the history of the franchise with a different name onto a new page. --James161723 (talk) 21:47, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support move/rename, no split. SportsFan007 (talk) 22:07, 23 October 2018 (UTC)SportsFan007
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Suggestion: Cap Logo Image Change (10.17.2018)
[edit]When looking at the rebranding images on the Syracuse Mets website[1] and other credible media sources[2][3], you can see that the at-home style caps for the team are blue with an orange S. This S lies within a white outline (metshomecap.jpeg). This is why I would like to change the cap logo image in the wiki to the following image.Syracuse Mets Home Cap 2019--Grayson Woods (talk) 02:19, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
