I would change: Stallone mostly only found gradual work as an extra or side character in films with a sizeable budget until he achieved his greatest critical and commercial success as an actor, starting in 1976 with his self-created role as the boxer Rocky Balboa, in the first film of the successful Rocky series (1976-2018).

Adding a higher quality signature
I don’t see why this has to be discussed but for some reason I can’t put it up without people agreeing. So who’s in favour of putting this high quality vectorised svg version of his signature over this low quality png version of his signature? Michael14375 (talk) 18:25, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
- This is the first time I've seen this and it might be common, but it seems to take away from the authenticity of the original signature. I could be wrong here, but I wanted to hear from other editors. - FlightTime Phone (open channel) 18:29, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

- @FlightTime Phone: I know I shouldn't edit war but it shouldn’t be something that has to be resolved mate, I put my time and effort into vectorising his signature because signatures on Wikipedia aren't supposed to be a low resolution png file, plus I was the one that uploaded the low resolution png file before I figured out how to vectorise signatures. So can you stop undoing my edits and keep it up? Michael14375 (talk) 18:45, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

- @FlightTime Phone: Just forget about my editwarring. You can’t just undo edits just because you're unsure, I know what I'm doing. The signature I uploaded in vector format has a source to prove it's authenticity and should 100% stay up. Signatures should not be in low resolution. Michael14375 (talk) 18:57, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

- @FlightTime Phone: Then how many supporters do I need? I have never run into this issue until now, this is honestly ridiculous. I still fail see why you'd rather have a low quality signature than a vectorised one. Michael14375 (talk) 20:59, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Big gap
There continues to be a big gap in this article. It doesn't explain why he was in Switzerland. It doesn't say what he studied at university or whether he received any qualification. It doesn't describe any physical training, sport etc, that would have developed his physique.--Jack Upland (talk) 21:25, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
His official site says, He then spent two years instructing at the American College of Switzerland in Geneva.
But according to the New York Times: After high school in Philadelphia, where he had been a star fullback and discus thrower, Stallone enrolled at the American College in Leysin, Switzerland. Finding that money was scarce, he teamed up with classmate Prince Paul of Ethiopia to open a hamburger stand for the student, who had never tasted them before. Another part-time job required him to shoo men away from the girls' dormitory. He soon found, however, that it was more profitable to look the other way, 2 francs an hour, to be exact. I earned my plane fare home that way, he said, smiling.
So was he a teacher or a student?--Jack Upland (talk) 08:51, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

The newspaper article I saw today won't be online for several more days. I can link to it then. Stallone's real name
@Squared.Circle.Boxing: Stallone's real name is not Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone but Sylvester Enzio Stallone. See his official biography.
When he was a student, Stallone called himself Michael because he was ashamed of his first name which he found ridiculous. His real name is Sylvester [Gaud]enzio Stallone. I know his family history very well. Silvestro (=Sylvester) was the first name of his grandfather who arrived in New York in 1923 (from Gioia del Colle, Puglia). He had come to join his brother Gaudenzio, who arrived in New York in 1913. Stallone's middle name is Gaudenzio, shortened to Enzio because it had been wrong spelled Gardenzio. Patrub01 (talk) 17:58, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Patrub01: I'm actually seeing quite a lot of reliable-looking sources (there was one from DigitalSpy, deemed reliable at WP:RSP) that are referencing an interview his mother did in the 1980s, where she apparently said she wanted to call him Tyrone, but his father put Sylvester on the birth certificate. I can't be arsed myself, but if you can get the most reliable looking sources (preferably three or four in order to counter the abundance of sources claiming it's Michael), then I think that should settle it. The search term I used in Google was
"Tyrone Stallone" "Sylvester Stallone"
, with the quotation marks. – 2.O.Boxing 18:56, 20 January 2023 (UTC) - I just noticed I still had the website up in a different tab, so here's the DigitalSpy one [2]. – 2.O.Boxing 18:59, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

- And the first name Michael has been deleted many times:
- And all that is needed now is the reliable sources in the article. Wikipedia:Verifiability, not truth. – 2.O.Boxing 19:36, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Squared.Circle.Boxing: The sources for the current article are not absolutely reliable, because:
- - according to WP:RSP, "People" magazine should not be used for contentious claims unless supplemented with a stronger source;
- - the book of Paul G. Roberts, which does not indicate its sources, is not a solid proof.
- The sources I propose seem acceptable to me because:
- - regarding Stallone's official biography, who knows his name better than Stallone himself?
- - the FamilySearch document that I found (1950 census) is an official digitized document which WP:RSP states that it may be usable in limited situations. Patrub01 (talk) 20:44, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- There's a lot about Sly that isn't reel. For example, his sojourn in Switzerland.--Jack Upland (talk) 21:24, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- The fact the book doesn't cite any sources doesn't mean it's not reliable. I've read plenty of books that don't. Stallone's official website does not explicitly state his birth name, it gives his full name. They're not always the same. I haven't looked at the familysearch source because I don't have an account (and don't want one), but those
limited situations
are detailed in WP:BLPPRIMARY. The solution is to find the reliable, secondary sources that discuss his mother's interview. If the familysearch source includes his birth certificate then that can be used as the final nail, complying with thelimited situations
detailed in WP:BLPPRIMARY, which doesn't apply to the sources you want to use as his birth certificat doesn't (according to his mother) say "Enzio". You cant supplement a self-published source with a primary document if they dont give identical information. – 2.O.Boxing 21:47, 20 January 2023 (UTC)- @Squared.Circle.Boxing: I found an interview with a childhood friend of Stallone who explains that Mike (Michael) was not Stallone's first name but his nickname. Read the interview here. Patrub01 (talk) 10:50, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
There are many biographies of Stallone that claim his birth name to be Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone. It is a mistake. In reality his birth name is Sylvester Gaudenzio Stallone. Michael (Mike) was his nickname when he was young.
When he was born, his mother Jackie wanted to call him Tyrone because she admired actor Tyrone Power (Source #1). But it was his father Frank who chose the first name when he declared the child to the civil status (Source #1). He named him Sylvester in memory of his father Silvestro in accordance with the Italian tradition of naming the eldest son after his grandfather (Source #2).
This first name did not please the child who preferred to be called Mike (Source #1). And his comrades who didn't know his real first name called him Mike (Source#3). During his graduate studies, he even included the first name Michael in his highschool's yearbook (Source#4).
His middle name is Gaudenzio (misspelled Gardenzio, or shortened Enzio) given to him in memory of his great-uncle Gaudenzio Stallone who was the first of the family to emigrate to New York (Source#5) and who was later joined by his brother Silvestro (Source#6). In 1930, the two brothers lived together in New York (Source#7). Patrub01 (talk) 16:21, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- Source 1 looks more than adequate. The DigitalSpy one I mentioned in the above thread can be added to that. Does the Familysearch source include Stallone's birth certificate? If it doesn't then it's not usable. I'll have a look and see if I can find another secondary source to add. – 2.O.Boxing 02:11, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- If this last one can be used as a reference, then I think these three should be enough [3], [4], [5]. However, per these sources, his middle name will have to be
Gardenzio
. Regardless of any deviations from the traditional spelling, if that's what's on his birth certificate (according to sources, including his mother) then that's what we put. – 2.O.Boxing 02:26, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- Birth records of living persons are not available on FamilySearch. But when you get married, you have to provide a birth certificate. I found two marriage extracts on FamilySearch. First the marriage with his first wife (December 28, 1974 in Los Angeles) where the bride and groom are designated as Sasha J. Czack and Sylvester E. Stallone (E. for Enzio) (Source#8). Secondly the marriage with his third wife (in May 1997 in Westminster-London) where the bride and groom are designated as Jennifer L. Flavin and Sylvester E. Stallone (E. for Enzio) (Source#9). I couldn't find the marriage to Brigitte Nielsen.
- Regarding the ambiguity between Gardenzio and Gaudenzio, it is possible that the middle name was mistakenly written Gardenzio instead of Gaudenzio on the birth certificate, and that Stallone preferred to shorten it to Enzio rather than having a wrong middle name. Patrub01 (talk) 17:55, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think we can use marriage certificates to verify a birth name. If the sources we have say Gardenzio then it will have to be that. Are there any secondary, reliable sources that discuss the misspelling? – 2.O.Boxing 23:33, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

Concerning Stalonne's grandfather Silvestro Stallone, there are other sources: Source#1, Source#2, Source#3, Source#4. We can also see in the last that the middle name of Stallone is written Gaudenzio. Cordially. Patrub01 (talk) 17:27, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- I don't dispute his grandfather's name. I know nothing about Italian naming customs but logic tells me you're correct; Stallone's first and middle names are more than likely variations of his grandfather's. The issue is the lack of sources explicitly stating it. Per WP:SYNTH, we can't
combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source
. – 2.O.Boxing 18:50, 2 February 2023 (UTC)- @Squared.Circle.Boxing: It seems to me, however, that the four sources above, as well as the two sources that you erased from the article today (Source#5 and Source#6), explicitly state the parentage between Silvestro Stallone and Sylvester Stallone. "Stallone is the only actor in the history of American cinema to have starred in a box-office number-one film across six consecutive decades"
This is not true anymore. Harrison Ford achieved the same feat, so they should both be mentioned. Ford's #1 movies at the box office for each decade include Star Wars (1970s), Indiana Jones movies (1980s), The Fugitive (1990s), the fourth Indiana Jones movie (2000s), Star Wars sequels (2010s), and the last Indiana Jones movie (2020s). Therefore, this should be mentioned or corrected.--3E1I5S8B9RF7 (talk) 17:54, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
