There was never a Dutch word meaning swinging and suchlike. However, nonce words ending in a vowel plus -ffelen can be used jocularly in conversation, as their onomatopoeic quality usually conjures up some sort of meaning. Some of these are also standard vocabulary, such as knuffelen for cuddle. Obviously any number of -ffle and -ddle words in English function in much the same way. It could be the case that the similarity between -ffelen in Dutch and -ffle in English was noted by a bilingual speaker, and much was made of this word. 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:F496:D5F7:A6E3:59B0 (talk) 13:55, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
