Seoul subway stations
[edit]Should this be in Category:Seoul subway stations? The problem being that that's a daughter of Category:Seoul, in which this certainly does not belong. -- Visviva 14:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- Tricky. It's a "Seoul Metropolitan Subway station" but not a "Seoul subway station". Creating a separate category for all "Seoul Metropolitan Subway stations" is possible but I think it's fine just to include all network stations in C:Sss. Any ideas about precedent for this in e.g. London, Tokyo etc.? Deizio talk 14:48, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
No, it shouldn't be in Seoul Subway Stations. It's a railroad station with subway/metro connections, as well as KTX service, and the three-level regular service offered by Korean rail. It is a giant place, and serves many more functions than simply being a subway station; to call it such, or categorize it as such would give entirely the wrong idea, ie, it would be somewhat less than factual.Theonemacduff (talk) 05:46, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Suwon Station → Suwon station – Korean station convention is lowercase station, like US and many other countries. Dicklyon (talk) 01:15, 11 July 2023 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). :3 F4U (they/it) 01:55, 11 July 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. EggRoll97 (talk) 07:56, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- Listed at: WT:WikiProject Korea, WT:WikiProject Trains. :3 F4U (they/it) 22:16, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose Unlike simple subway stations on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway, the name for "Suwon Station" includes the word "Station" as part of its proper name. This can be evidenced in the Korea Joongang Daily, Maeil Business News, The Korea Times, Yonhap, the LATimes, and The Hankyoreh. :3 F4U (they/it) 01:55, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support – Book usage shows that lowercase station is common. And the platform sign just says "Suwon". Caps are not necessary. Dicklyon (talk) 02:12, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- Tbh I don't think most of the books found in that google books search count as reliable sources, and FWIW Suwon Station is still more common per Google ngram. I'm aware the platform states "Suwon", but the article is on the station/building, not the subway stop itself. This sort of design can be found everywhere, not just in Korea. For example, the signs on the platform of Newark Penn Station simply say Newark, rather than the full name of the station. :3 F4U (they/it) 02:27, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- The n-gram stats do make it clear that station is not consistently capitalized in independent sources, as MOS:CAPS requires. Dicklyon (talk) 02:49, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- There are too few book sources to say anything about that, and more importantly: nearly all the book results in your search are from unreliable sources. Wikipedia titles are based on usage in reliable sources, which in contrast to the book search, pretty much universally capitalize "Station". :3 F4U (they/it) 02:51, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose per
they/itF4U - As the station uses this name I see no reason to decapitalise it. –Davey2010Talk 19:58, 13 July 2023 (UTC)- @Davey2010: Wouldn't "per F4U" be correct? I'd never say "per he" or "per she"; it's both ungrammatical and unclear who you're talking about. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:14, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Jlwoodwa, I don't know why or how I came to misread their username so my sincere apologies @Freedom4U, The comment should've certainly said "F4U", I can safely say intentionally I wouldn't !vote per anyones pronouns because you just wouldn't, Anyway my apologies F4U!, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 00:21, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

- Support, since not consistently captalized in sources. This really isn't any different from any of the zillion other station/line/stop/route cases we've had at RM before. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 23:20, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: This is the 'Suwon Station', not the station 'Suwon'. File:Korail-Suwon-station-west-entrance-20181127-111754.jpg, File:Suwon_station.JPG, ... Sawol (talk) 09:07, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support. Standard naming convention absent proof that this is a proper name and always referred to as "Suwon Station". Mackensen (talk) 22:19, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nominator and other people pointing out the differences in sign usage and usage in sentences. Killuminator (talk) 11:13, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
