- ... that non-League Sutton United's defeat of Coventry City in 1989 has been described as "one of the greatest FA Cup giant-killing acts of all time"?
- ALT1:... that a team including bricklayers, assistant bank managers and insurance clerks defeated Coventry City in the third round of the FA Cup in 1989?
5x expanded by The Rambling Man (talk) and Amakuru (talk). Nominated by The Rambling Man (talk) at 20:50, 15 March 2021 (UTC).
- Date and length fine. AGF on book and paywall sources used. I think it might be better if you can expand the link beyond just "defeated" @The Rambling Man: @Amakuru:. I slightly prefer ALT1, especially if you say Coventry were pros. QPQ done, no close paraphrasing. Good to go. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 17:13, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
- The Rambling Man, are you okay with me linking FA Cup in this hook? MeegsC (talk) 13:50, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- I mean, it's the oldest association football (soccer) cup competition in the world, so it's a bit like asking to link the Superbowl, but whatever you like. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 15:59, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Infobox and lead
[edit]- Might be worth adding association football before match in the opening sentence otherwise the actual sport probably doesn't become apparent until the Football League is mentioned further down.
- "at the Gander Green Lane", I'm a little unsure whether the is required here. The article itself only uses the when referring to the initial site or the stand located at that end. Also, we wouldn't say "Tottenham played at the White Hart Lane", thoughts?
- Sutton and London are linked in the infobox, but Sutton is left unlinked in the text. Is that intentional?
- "when Stephens took a corner", full name for Stephens?
Background
[edit]- Might be worth adding an abbreviation template to the H/A in the table here to explain those terms.
- Link Sutton United in the first sentence here.
- "a non-League club playing in the Conference", I think this would be better in the first paragraph to establish at what level Sutton were playing to open.
- "Knocked out league teams", probably worth changing to Football League and linking.
- Link Second Division and replay.
- You use the full Sutton United name four times in the second paragraph before dropping down to just Sutton after that. Probably worth cutting the Uniteds after the first usage.
- Link Coventry City.
- The Maidstone link goes to the phoenix side that was formed in 1992. It needs to go to Maidstone United F.C. (1897) instead.
- Great spot. I should know that having just worked on a play-off article where Maidstone played! Done. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 10:09, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Summary
[edit]- First name for Stephens here too.
- "A free kick for Sutton's came to nothing", the "'s" can be dropped here.
- "goal-line clearances cleared", a little repetitive here, could possibly just drop the second usage.
Details
[edit]- I'm not sure it's a requirement for GA, but the player flags in these match articles are generally frowned upon.
- In the lead and the summary you use Matthew Hanlon, but in the details and once in the post-match section it uses Hanlan?
- Hanlon. My typo. Also caught the missing publisher there too. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 10:14, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
That's all I've got. Great stuff, placed on hold for now. Kosack (talk) 09:46, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- Kosack cheers, all addressed I think, and your speedy review very much appreciated. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 10:14, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
- Looks good to me, happy to promote. Kosack (talk) 13:19, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
