There appears to be a discrepancy as to Fereday's date of birth with reputable sources stating either 1810 or 1818 as the year of her birth. I have contacted the National Library of Australia to confirm which date is correct as different parts of their catalogue have different dates. I'll of course update the article once I've received confirmation from them. Ambrosia10 (talk) 21:26, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've received a reply from the National Library of Australia regarding Fereday's year of birth. The text of their reply is as follows:
"From some checking of BDM and other record I feel the date should actually be 1815. An image of her headstone gives her age as 63 in October 1878. https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/find-a-grave-prod/photos/2013/12/103520036_135810816399.jpg According to the June 1841 England census her age is given as 25 years old. When married to John in December 1836 in the UK her age is given as 21 years old. I cannot find a record of her birth in the UK with the resources we have access to, but can find one that may explain the 1810 reference. Her parents Frederick and Susan Apthorp had a girl named Susan in November 1810 but she is listed as dying in January 1811. The remainder of their children seem to have been born between 1813 and 1822, so must have then named one of them Susan as well. The 1810 birth may then have been mistakenly counted as the birth date of artist Susan Fereday (nee Apthorp). .... I have referred this to our cataloging staff who will review the life dates for Susan Fereday on our catalogue records and update the field to read 1815-1878."
As a result of this reply I intend to await to see whether the catalogue records of the National Library of Australia are amended and then use the same as a supporting reference for Fereday's year of birth.Ambrosia10 (talk) 06:27, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to leave a note here when I recently checked the National Library of Australia catalogue records and discovered they have now amended Fereday's birth dates as a result of the above. I've edited the article and cited their catalogue as support for this edit. I also understand that the Library is also contacting the Australian National Herbarium as well as Design and Art Australia Online concerning the updated information.
