[edit]The size scale of granulation may derive, from the balance, between buoyancy vs. viscosity, the latter being inversely proportional to the horizontal granule size scale, which represents the length scale over which velocity shear (between ascending & descending plasma) is spread, per Newton's formula. 66.235.38.214 (talk) 17:00, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- Against that, the grouping of ascending parcels of fluid, and descending parcels, into cells, may minimize viscous drag. Perhaps the size scale is set by time-scale of heating at depth, heat dumping at altitude ? 66.235.38.214 (talk) 17:12, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
