Regarding new content
Page is getting a little unwieldy and not about to get any smaller, so I've archived. I certainly don't want to chop off any active discussions -- however, if all you're posting here to do is to try and confirm a picture you found on the Internet, take it elsewhere. If it's an obvious fake, it's going to be deleted. If you're posting speculation about removed characters, it's going to be deleted. There is a lot of legitimate information out there and a lot of fake stuff; please try to be discerning when bringing it up for article inclusion consideration. Thank you. Characters officially confirmed according to Wikipedia's policies
Note: since Super Smash Bros. Brawl is now released in Japan, footage from the game can be used as a citation, and as such this particular list is irrelevant. oobugtalk/contrib 21:53, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Lucario, Falco, R.O.B., Luigi, Mr. Game & Watch, Captain Falcon - Computer and Video Games
Marth, Ness - IGN - Official Intro Video
Please update this list with links to Wikipidia-verification-approved websites. The only characters that have not yet been confirmed by an official publication, but have been confirmed by pictures, are Ganondorf and WW LINK, so be on the lookout for these articles. oobugtalk/contrib 20:53, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've already done Marth's, but given as I don't spend too much time looking through game sites, is C&VG truly a reliable source? -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 20:56, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, wait till these sources are reliable. IGN is definitely reliable. But the other source does not appear to be so.KyuuA4 (talk) 20:56, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'd hold off on Bomberman. I've been reading that it's a faked shot. Equally unverifiable, but futher confirmation should be required, seeing as he's not mentioned by other sources, be they legitimate for Wikipeida or not. --LordHuffnPuff (talk) 20:59, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Computer and Video Games is backed by 26-27 years of experience. However, since exceptional claims require exceptional sources, you can wait until more sites pick that information up as well. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 21:00, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

- why can't we add C.Falcon or Luigi?--Lbrun12415 21:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Until they're confirmed by a notable, verifiable publication, we can't say that they've been confirmed by Wikipedia's policies. Although I'm convinced by the pictures, it goes against Wikipedia policy to solely use anonymously uploaded pictures of an unreleased game as a source. This list is for characters confirmed by official, reliable sources. oobugtalk/contrib 21:20, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Re-added this to active discussion to clarify where we've gotten so far regarding acceptable content for citations and characters that can be confirmed. If this is deemed unnecessary, than you may revert. oobugtalk/contrib 21:33, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Added Ness to characters shown in IGN intro video; I forgot he made an appearance. oobugtalk/contrib 21:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Well this completely got me by surprise... I mean I knew Marth and Ness were in, I saw the video, but what's all of this talk about chars like Mr. GW, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and ROB being confirmed as chars. Where are these leaked pics? Someone post a link please. And I thought ROB was already a NPC, w/ his role in Subspace Emmissary and stuff. 24.186.101.182 (talk) 23:31, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Here's a link to an article with screenshots, the character roster, and videos (ReyBrujo posted it above). Now, would this article meet wiki's standards? TwilightWeapon (talk) 23:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Unfortunately not. Joystiq is a "tech blog" site, which does not require itself to verify information before posting. Although I agree that Joystiq's information is probably true, a blog does not fall under the scope of Wikipedia's verifiability standards. Even though the information looks quite legitimate, we need to follow Wikipedia protocol. In fact, Twilight, I would argue that the Joystiq post carried enough information to justify using it as a source, but it doesn't follow Wikipedia policies, which have precedence. We owe it to the users to follow our policies. oobugtalk/contrib 02:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

- (ec) Yes. But... the game hasn't been officially released, has it? Fan made images are perfect for forums, but not for Wikipedia. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 00:32, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- How about "fan-made" videos? Because it'd be hard for someone to forge what's on Youtube. I'm surprised you tight-asses haven't questioned the intro movie because it's an FMV as one can easily argue it doesn't mean they're in the game. LikuX (talk) 12:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't see how Lucario, Ness and Jigglypuff were put as confirmed as returning, as per the Sticker leak, yet actual gameplay footage of characters fighting, a whole bunch of footage, all consistant with eachother, doesn't count as proof, any less than the blurry pixelated faces of the aformentioned three. http://gonintendo.com/?p=34396 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30051.html http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/29/super-spoiler-bros-brawl-major-leaked-roster-update-videos-a/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.165.53.91 (talk) 13:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Gamespot blog about the leaks
GameSpot has a blog entry with information about the characters including Luigi. However, it is a blog entry and not an article, so take it as a questionable source just like Joystiq. Note that both GameSpot and IGN are taking care of not publishing an article without verifying the information. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 01:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I think that Gamespot News Blog should be enough confirmation. [1] M4192 (talk) 02:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- We are reaching that point, however as you can see, neither IGN nor GameSpot are willing to risk their credibility by publishing articles about the leaks. Kotaku also covered the leaks, but as Joystiq it is a blog. They must be covering themselves after CVG confirmed Bomberman. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 02:29, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

This is no longer about Wikipedia policies and more about people here being hard headed and enjoying themselves. Face the facts, the game has been leaked/broke street date, we know everything we need to know, the game is officially out in Japan tomorrow and all you who were getting a kick out of saying "This is not a real source" will get your ass handed to you by everyone else tomorrow.
Here, Kotaku has an article as well for those of you who care: http://kotaku.com/350347/super-smash-bros-brawl-leaks-turn-to-flood
Oh and don't bother digging up Wikipedia rules to talk to me, I really couldn't care less at this point since these sources are right.

- Like my mother always says, you can't be more christian than the Pope. Even cops will put the book and use their better judgment once in a while. I agree on source matter, but I also believe on the old "If it quacks like a duck" logic. We have two types of people who are currently preventing these characters to be added:
- 1- People who are getting a kick of thinking that they have power here AKA ToyCops
- 2- People like yourself who would like to do something about it but are afraid of what others would say (mainly Type 1)
Duhman. Calm down...I do believe you do not wish to end up like Rikara for his actions on this talk page: User_talk:Rikara#3RR. It is true that we cannot add these until verifiable sources surface. - One could argue that Cell Shaded Link is basically Young Link with a different name and animation. Duhman0009 (talk) 06:34, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I find it difficult to believe that this is the full, final, complete roster. It was released in Hong Kong for less than 24 hours...and some characters require in-game time to unlock certain characters. 24 hours just doesn't hit it for some. That's another reason why we're waiting. --haha169 (talk) 06:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- None of the characters require in-game time, as far as I'm able to tell. It seems like (going by the leaks here) they're just unlocked when you find them in SSE or do the event with them in it... --Ryajinor (talk) 07:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- It is possible that this is NOT the FINAL character list and more likely just a "mid-game" roster. So it doesn't deconfirm anyone yet. --Genosoa (talk) 10:18, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- For the most part, I believe most of our information has been coming from a single person hosting a feed of him playing through the game. The speculation that there are only 35 characters comes from the fact that there is only room for 36 character icon on a SSE save slot. However, I do believe the Dojo said at one point that "most characters are unlocked via the SSE," leaving to reason that there are some who are unlocked other ways. Perhaps even some that have no position in the SSE. As said, in Melee, there were characters who it took hours of play to unlock, so it's doubtful that a few people playing with no clue on how to unlock everyone will do so reliably in so short amount of time. It does seem, however, that SSBB is making it much less difficult to unlock characters, relying primarily on their new story mode. In any event, there is no confirmation that this slot-theory means that there are only 35 or 36 characters. 69.65.69.116 (talk) 08:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- The 35 character list was leaked a long time before Brawl was released (which lists the above characters and Star Wolf to make up 35, Star Wolf is still to be verified- but you can see that the remaining person would have to fit in the Star Fox column to shift everyone into column-place). There's no doubt in most people's mind that this 35 character list is correct, the guy who leaked it hasn't been wrong about anything up to now! --86.136.49.103 (talk) 10:55, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- This roster looks incomplete. For example why is Bowser next to Snake and Sonic, he should be under Luigi. "Toon Link" should be under the Zelda characters not in the middle. This roster seems as if something is missing to it... but who?AlexanderLD (talk) 12:06, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- There is also a character name タブー. I don't know what game he/she/it originated from, but the character appears to be the final boss. (Parrothead1983) 07:42, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I think that the name タブー means "random" in Japanese. Sakurai just confirmed that there is a "random" button in the character selection screen. There is definitely room for one more character. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.138.216.134 (talk) 13:33, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- タブー written in Roman characters is "Tabuu" or "Taboo" and this character's significance has yet to be determined. Also, that image is not the full roster, nominating for speedy delete. Coreycubed (talk) 13:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Not that my opinion matters, but I agree with the notion that Star Wolf completes the roster. Just look at the first "confirmed" roster, and then the new roster with Wolf in it. Everyone is in their proper place. I just can't wait to laugh when all who are doubting this are proven wrong. Also, the Smash Bros website confirmed that the white space is, in fact, random. Yes it should be unlocked so people can add the characters above - Tetria (talk) 21:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)- I disagree; since the game is not yet out in North America, the page is still extremely prone to vandalism by hopeful or overeager fans. - And unfortunately, with so little time behind us since release day, we can only use the most obvious of information (getting a complete roster has been hard enough!). In a week or so, the rumors will have been dispelled and the verifiable game content will be apparent. Right now, there's just been so little disseminated, or at least not enough time to compile verifiable game content. Coreycubed (talk) 22:17, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

"?" Characters
Why are Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, Pichu, and Roy still marked with question marks? We know the final roster thanks to the "You've unlocked all characters!" message, and they're not on it; why continue to hold on to the belief that they are? Therefore, I propose that their status in Brawl be officially marked as . (As for Young Link, I say we leave it as is until we get the Toon Link argument settled.) Cyberlink420 (talk) 23:22, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I can't confirm or deny this translation, but I'm sure there's someone around here who can read Japanese. And as far as I'm aware, Jigglypuff and Toon Link are the only characters you don't get through SSE. SuperLink9 (talk) 00:24, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- This image is shown after you unlock Star Wolf, which is done by completing All-Star mode, not the Subspace Emissary. If the text does read as has been suggested, that would imply that all of the characters in the game have been unlocked, and therefore that the article has a complete list of characters. oobugtalk/contrib 00:28, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Or that all characters are unlocked from all-star mode. Certain characters were unlocked from classic mode in SSBM and the same could be for this game, so don't make decisions so quickly. I had my friend who speaks Japanese translate that message for me. He gave the literal translation as "My Character has become able to serve! His true strength is in his body!" New Dojo Development
In the recent update for today on Smash Bros. Dojo it has been mentioned that from this point onwards they will be posting updates on the hidden characters and stages and other things that haven't been revealed. The only reason why I am posting this is to let anyone who reads it be aware of what is happening because it will help with sourcing on the hidden characters if anyone still has any doubts that towards the full roster and such. -71.59.237.110 (talk) 08:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
When was it confirmed that those characters are out?
Doesn't it only confirm the ones that are in? maybe he got all of the ones from the Subspace Emissary, but not any of the ones from other modes. I personally think that those characters are cut, but since when is it official?Igglybuff63 (talk) 12:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- It was official when the guy with the leaked game got the "You've unlocked all characters" message after he got Wolf. Powerslave (talk|cont.) 13:01, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Jigglypuff, Toon Link and Wolf are the only characters that you unlock outside of the Subspace Emissary. The character selection screen is perfectly organised in columns (http://ranobe.com/up/src/up254176.jpg) and from the beginning of the game until all characters are unlocked, it's quite randomly jumbled, further evidence that the roster is full. Then there's this image (http://ranobe.com/up/src/up254175.jpg), which the player found after he unlocked Wolf in All Star Mode. It apparantly translates to "At last, every character has become usable! From this point onwards, it is the true battle!". Of course we cannot prove this until we can get someone who can read Japanese to have a look. SuperLink9 (talk) 15:12, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- My sister can read Japanese, and she told me that it basically says "you've become able to use every characters! you can truly battle now!". She broke down part of it for me: "The 'mai' part means every and 'kyara' is short for characters." She said it could also mean "my characters," but probably not in this situation. Also, not to be totally picky, but is that image of Wolf in the roster the only evidence we have that Wolf is a confirmed character? Compare that image (http://ranobe.com/up/src/up254176.jpg) to an image of the roster taken earlier in the game (http://medialib.computerandvideogames.com/screens/screenshot_191240.jpg), it looks to me like the cursor was cut from that image and pasted into the Wolf image. Notice how it has the same exact motion blur, and looks less well blended in on the Wolf image. I mean, there may be other evidence of Wolf being in the game, I don't know, but that picture looks fake to me. -IG-64 (talk) 16:12, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Igglybuff, I agree with you totally, but we had a rather long discussion about what to do with the in/out/unconfirmed icons, and decided to use X's unless they're confirmed to be in. This decision can be changed, of course, but since the page is fully protected, I'm not convinced that it's worth an administrator's time to change all the X's to question marks. IG-64, even though we can't technically use your sister as a citation, I'm very glad that you took the time to ask her! I've thought that the rumored translation of the text was somewhat dubious, since I couldn't find any mention of the translation in my own searches. I'm happy to have some confirmation. Also, I have seen YouTube videos of Wolf in battle, and since the released game is its own source, we could technically use this footage as a citation. oobugtalk/contrib 16:36, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Actually the page has been unlocked for a few hours now but before it was unprotected an admin was the one who changed question marks to crosses and ticks based off the talk page. However there is one that remains a question mark, Young Link because there was question if Toon Link and Young Link should be counted as the same character, I believe the currect idea is wait and see if Dojo adds Toon Link in veterans or newcomers.
R.O.B Confirmed
Everyone knows this right? So why are some people putting him down as not a playable character?Onepiece226 (talk) 19:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Onepiece226
- They're still under the impression that the DOJO!! is the only source. I've updated the hidden note at the top of the Characters section to address this.Satoryu (talk) 19:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok because we all already know he's playable, and someone keeps putting an X under his name for BrawlOnepiece226 (talk) 19:24, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Onepiece226
People say Rob is confirmed when he is not on the offical site. It says you need to have reliable sources and as far as I am concerned that is the only reliable on there is.
- There is a more reliable source: the game itself. In case you didn't know, the game has been out in Japan for a day now. The full roster has been revealed. That includes R.O.B. Denile is not just a river in Egypt.Satoryu (talk) 19:28, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- There are now tons of videos around the net showing all of the characters revealed in the past few days. If those aren't evidence enough then I don't know what is. If there are some who still don't believe it, I COULD just go ahead and get links to gameplay footage for every character off YouTube, because it's very easy... SuperLink9 (talk) 22:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Ummmmmmmmmmm, the river in Egypt is called the Nile not DEnile-LyokoTitan101
Omg ok it's just an expression like deny? you live in denial? DENILE! get it?, Ok for R.O.B., just because he's called robot in Japan, his name has always been known as R.O.B. in America, Like Bowers name in Japan is Koopa, and Jigglypuff's name is Purin, The name R.O.B. staysOnepiece226 (talk) 23:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Onepiece226
- Obviously, LyokoTitan101, you didn't catch the pun. Anyway, OP226 is 100% correct. The name is R.O.B.Satoryu (talk) 00:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
R.O.B. Friend or Foe?
In the article, this is said:
The Subspace Emissary features a new group of antagonists called the Subspace Army, who are led by the Ancient Minister. Some of these enemy characters appeared in previous Nintendo video games, such as Petey Piranha from the Mario series and a squadron of R.O.B.s based on classic Nintendo hardware.
A squadron of R.O.B.s? But isn't R.O.B. a confirmed playable character? Can somebody clear this up for me? Thanks! Epass (talk) 20:17, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
There are bad R.O.B.s that work for the Ancient Minister. The playable R.O.B. is speculated to be a good one! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.102.73 (talk) 20:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Both. There's an individual playable R.O.B., and then there's separate enemy squadrons of them. Arrowned (talk) 20:39, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Yea what I believe is that you're not playing as a general R.O.B, but an actual specific R.O.B who in SSE turns good and...yea. It's kind of like though Pikachu is a actually the name of the species, it is suspected that the playable Pikachu is that of Ash Ketchum or maybe the trainer from Yellow Version, making the playable Pikachu a specific Pikachu rather than some random old one. Does that make sense?24.186.101.182 (talk) 21:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Re-protection
As a heads up for people who were unaware, Xenon54 re-requested full protection of Brawl due to the rampant vandalism we're currently getting; I've done the same for (series). Since the reason for protection is different, I'm not certain we'll receive full prot; the articles may only be semi-protected instead. Anything would help at this point though. Arrowned (talk) 22:48, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- I semiprotected both after looking at their histories; if autoconfirmeds start coming in Super Scopes blazing I'll full-protect for the remainder of the time. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 23:07, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Is the Japanese name for Fighting Polygon Team the same for all the others?
The Japanese version of several Smash Bros. articles seem to show that the Japanese names for the Polygons, Wire Frames and Alloys are all the same. Should we make note of that if this is true? Immblueversion (talk) 23:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- It's true for the Wire Frames and Alloys at least; I'm not sure on the Polygons. I suppose making it a separate note would indeed save space rather than using three nihongo templates in a row. Arrowned (talk) 23:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I feel that this article is a good article, and I have nominated it. Epass (talk) 23:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
