Scottish Opera

[edit]

Dear Contributors,

There's another musical project with Scottish Opera in which I've been involved recently. It's called '5:15'. I tried to import a link t here but was unable to. This is the link address: http://www.scottishopera.org.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=165&Itemid=211

It might be relevant for my wikipedia entry. As such, it might come in the section beneath plays, as : Opera Librettos:

'The Queens of Govan'

(with Nigel Osborne and Wajahat Khan, for Scottish Opera, 2008)

Also, one of my novels, 'Psychoraag' has been translated and published in French by Editions Metailie: http://www.editions-metailie.com

I hope it's okay for me to suggest this kind of thing - I think it'd be helpful for users of the site and it's also, I think, in the spirit of Wikipedia for it to be an active site. Hope you agree.

Thanks for bringing this up, I think it's very helpful. I'm working on selecting and formatting references now. — Athaenara 20:55, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slight suggested correction

[edit]

Dear Contributors,

Thanks for updating re. the opear information.

Just a slight correction to another section - I just noticed this:

'The Aerodrome' was a novella published on-line by Sandstone Press. The dates, etc, re. publication are correct. It's just that the entry ought to appear under 'Novellas' and not under 'Books'.

Thanks again,

Suhayl Saadi —Preceding unsigned comment added by Suhaylsaadi (talkcontribs) 21:59, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done (diff). — Athaenara 05:47, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Review of Opera

[edit]

http://www.musicalcriticism.com/opera/sco-five-0308.shtml

The link above is another review of '5:15', the operas commissioned by Scottish Opera, of which the Queens of Govan was one. Unlike the others, this review was penned by a professional musician who is also an academic in the field. It might be appropriate to insert the link as a reference along with the others, in the requisite section. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.96.132.65 (talk) 14:50, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. The less worthy of the (now five) citations for one opera should probably be pruned. — Athaenara 19:46, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Spanish House, a new novella, published online

[edit]

A new novella,' The Spanish House' was published on 1/5/08 in the ezine, 'The Bottle Imp', which is a biannual publication of the Association for Scottish Literary Studies (ASLS), based at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Here is the link:

I didn't see this until this morning, sorry; I was on a wikibreak for two weeks and I'm now editing Wikipedia less frequently than before. — Athaenara 22:10, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Title

[edit]

It's occured to me (at this juncture) that the use of the title, 'Dr' probably would be best not used in connection with the writer's name, 'Suhayl Saadi'. This is because, while I am indeed a medical doctor, the name against which my UK degree was granted was a different one - my birth name - which of course pre-dated my assumption of the semi-pseudonym, 'Suhayl Saadi'. I'm keen to avoid any confusion in this regard. So it's fine to say that I am a physician (because I am!) but best not to use the 'Dr' title with my name, 'Suhayl Saadi'. Sometimes one will find me on the web referred to to as 'Dr Suhayl Saadi' by good people who are not aware of the semi-pseudonymous nature of the name by which I am most commonly known. But in general, eg. on this web-page, I feel that there's no real necessity to state that the name is a semi-pseudonym (Suhayl is my real name, though I spell it in different ways, and Saadi is my 'family name', though it's not my real surname). Those that know, know (if you see what I mean - though of course now with me posting this here...!) and I tend to keep the two parts of my life more-or-less as separate as they can be. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.69.68 (talk) 19:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph's Box

[edit]

A new novel by Suhayl Saadi, entitled, 'Joseph's Box' will be published in October 2009 by Two Ravens Press: http://www.tworavenspress.com/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.30.229 (talk) 19:46, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph's Box

[edit]

Correction: Joseph's Box will be published in August 2009, not October 2009. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.170.31.63 (talk) 17:05, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph's Box

[edit]

Dear Contributors,

Here are some links to reviews and interviews, etc. relating to the novel, 'Joseph's Box' which is referred to in the Bibliography sction, so the references of these links should probably be added to that item:

http://www.3ammagazine.com/3am/a-new-literary-form-is-born-an-interview-with-suhayl-saadi/ http://kitaabonline.wordpress.com/2009/10/01/suhayl-saadi-uncensored/ http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/news/booker-back-in-mainstream-thanks-to-bigname-writers-1764013.html http://edinburghfestival.list.co.uk/article/19858-suhayl-saadi/ http://www.edinburgh-festivals.com/viewpreview.aspx?id=440 http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/books/Book-review-Joseph39s-Box.5472937.jp http://www.heraldscotland.com/arts-ents/book-features/boxing-clever-1.821347 http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/reviews/josephs-box-by-suhayl-saadi-1784898.html http://vulpeslibris.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/my-favourite-books-of-the-autumn-a-selection-of-mini-reviews-part-2/ http://www.glasgowreview.co.uk/reviews/josephsbox.htm

Also, in the External Links section, it would mak sesne to insert the following link: http://www.josephsbox.co.uk/

I hope this is okay, me providng this inforamtion in this way. There doesn't seem to be anyone much posting new stuff on the page now, so I've taken the risk of being accused of self-promotion and provided the info. to anyone who deems it of sufficient import to post it on the page. Since we don't have access to big money marketeers and publicists, writers like me, whose work is deemed by some to be of a degree of import, have to undertake such work themselves. Therefore, I do not feel than a ban on such dynamics would serve the interests of the democratic and egalitarian dissemination of information which, admirably, Wikipedia represents. I've included 'bad' reviews as well as middling and reasonable ones in the above links, as they're all valid in the world of information and all have valid things to say (even if I may disagree with some of them!). Unfortunately for me and possibly also for readers, the 'best' reviews of the book are available only to subscribers of the relevant publictions and so cannot be accessed via public weblinks. C'st la vie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Suhaylsaadi (talkcontribs) 15:25, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
