Great page!
(Go Gifford and Foster!)
I wonder about the use of trophophyll. This does not seem like a common term and I wonder if we need it, or should be continuing its usage. There are leaves and among these some are sporophylls. Do we need a term for non-sporophyllous leaves?
My other suggestion might be to update the systematics of this page. G and F, of course, use the Linnaean taxonomy, but there seems little justification for maintaining sphenophyte as a major lineage. Instead we might split this into the lycophytes, monilophytes (or whatever term is agreed upon for this group (which would include the four lineages: psilphytes+ophioglossales; leptosporangiate ferns; marratialean ferns, sphenophytes.

This is a really good article but I think the second to last section should have a citation, or at least a "needs citation" tag. That bit about convergent evolution sounds good, but I would like to see it backed up by a source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.150.8.146 (talk) 01:39, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
