Connection to apartheid
[edit]What does Van Zandt have to do woth apartheid in south africa, You can see he is in one of the sub categories Thanks! [11:36, 18 February 2006 203.144.30.219]
- Uh, did you like read the article? [02:53, 19 February 2006 64.12.117.12]
Separate article for Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul
[edit]Why is there a seperate article on Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul? The "Disciples" were a just a bunch of studio sideman with no real group identity, who changed on each album in SVZ's barely-noticed solo career. Thusfor, the "Disciples" can eazily be incoprorated into the Steven Van Zandt article. 64.12.117.12 17:42, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- I strongly beg to differ on several grounds. First - the original "Disciples" had a group identity, even though it only lasted an album. The core of the group - Van Zandt, Danelli and Bouvoir - WERE the identity of the band for the better part of three years. Second, while it might fit into SVZ's article, it makes sense to keep it separate from the main article because it's almost entirely separate from Van Zandt's main claims to fame (his career in the E Street Band and as a producer).
- Mitchberg 23:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
- I tend to agree with the first poster, in favor of the merge. Mitchberg, your article on the Disciples fails to establish any identity or personality for them whatsoever; it's just a listing of personnel, that changes with each album. You say the core group was together for three years, but what if anything did they accomplish during that time? I own Voice of America, and I saw Little Steven in concert as an opening or benefit concert act several times in the 1984-1987 timeframe, but I gotta say they were one lousy on-stage group(s), playing too loudly and singing too incomprehensibly and foregoing melody almost completely, with little or no stage presence to boot. Whichever iteration(s) of the Disciples of Soul I saw, it had little soul and no followers; audiences generally stayed by the food stands until they were gone. As to your last point, Van Zandt does indeed have multiple claims to fame (you left out Sopranos), but so to do Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Reagan, and many others, all of whose entries cover all these aspects within one article. Wasted Time R 01:58, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have found no clear guidelines as to how to separate things like ongoing projects (which this certainly is) from the artist's personal article, or how much identity to put into it..
- I saw the original band - with the horn section and all - in Edinburgh in 1982, touring behind "Men Without Women". Steve is not my favorite frontman of all time ,but I loved the band. MWoW is one of my five favorite records of all time; VoA was a disappointment, and every album after that (up through Revolution, after which I stopped buying) was worse and worse.
- Anyway - if someone wants to merge it, go ahead. I'm not really seeing it, but I'm still new to this, and have not yet learned the Wikipedia secret handshake.
- Mitchberg 20:18, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- After further reflection, I think I found the best solution. Your LS & Disciples of Soul article was really three album articles in sequence, with a little overview of the whole project. I merged the overview into the main SVZ article and redirected the Disciples of Soul article to it, and then I created three new album articles for each of the albums you wrote up. Those are the appropriate places for the group and additional personnel material that you had written. All make sense? Wasted Time R 02:44, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- OH DEAR! Virtually every meaningful reference to Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul has disappeared from this article. I saw them at the height of their powers in the 80s, and it is really unfortunate that such an important part of Stevie's work is going unmarked. 19:57, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Origin of name
[edit]It says he was born Steven Lento, when/why did he change his last name to Van Zandt? [07:17, 30 March 2006 12.75.199.155]
Does this guy have any relation to townes van zandt? [10:14, 6 April 2006 203.45.119.10]
- Per Tom Tomorrow at http://thismodernworld.com/date/2005/11/08/, no. Wasted Time R 10:58, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- That and the whole "Birth name is Lento" bit.
- Actually, I remember hearing somewhere that he took Van Zandt as his stage game because he liked reading Townes. Or maybe it was listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd...
- Mitchberg 13:37, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
- No relation to Townes, but I've added some discussion on Townes' lineage at Talk:Townes Van Zandt#The Van Zandts, Townes and "Little Steven"? -MrFizyx 15:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Van Zandt is the name of his stepfather, per additions I've just made to the article. Wasted Time R 14:34, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
According to this very article, he was born to Van Zandt (née Lento) and Borello. If his mother was Van Zandt at his birth, he himself can't be "née", and vice versa. Obviously, there's something very wrong here, could simply be the wording. Perhaps what the article means to say "born to Lento (later Van Zandt) and Borello"? Also, "née" is misspelled at the very beginning of the article. 84.250.167.255 (talk) 10:07, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Per the early life section of the article "Van Zandt was born Steven Joseph Malafronte," so nee Lento (the maiden name of his mother, who was married to Malafonte at the time) would not be correct in any case. 2600:4808:48D2:9000:7854:F390:A928:E754 (talk) 16:00, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]It would probably be better to get a picture of Steve Van Zandt as himself instead of the Sopranos character Sil. [21:36, 7 April 2006 70.51.140.49]
- His Little Steven garb is just as much in character. Wasted Time R 22:09, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
More on his musical crusade
[edit]I second the suggestion that the picture show Van Zandt as himself rather than the character Silvio Dante.
Van Zandt has dedicated much of his last several years to preserving the memory of, and reviving a taste for, the Brittish Invasion and classic rock of the 50s and 60s--what he has called "garrage rock." He has promoted this on his radio show, "Little Steven's Underground Garrage," and through interviews and his own writing. In the long run Van Zandt may be better known for this work than for his role in the Spranos. Perhaps the entry should devote more attention to his role in promoting garrage rock.
Why Van Zandt?
[edit]There are other Van Zandts in Middletown; did he choose the name after one of them? Septentrionalis 05:27, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- It has already been posted that he took his name from his step-father. XdiabolicalX 00:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Steven/Maureen's Wedding
[edit]Steven and Maureen were married on December 31, 1982 at the Harkness House in New York City. Little Richard performed the ceremony. See Chuck Cross's book "Backstreets" for more info. but I know this is true from personal contact. Professabecca 04:10, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Early Years
[edit]makes no sense to list a bunch of people he isn't related to. Its not relevant and it just makes the article messy.Mbr1983 (talk) 14:33, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Incorrect Link
[edit]In the References section, Item #6 links to http://www.stevevanzandt.com. That takes users to a website for a comedian named Steve Van Zandt. It's not related to this article's Steven Van Zandt.
When I clicked the References' edit page the list does not come up, it simply says "ref list" with nothing below it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heartinsanfrancisco (talk • contribs) 21:31, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
External links isn't a parking lot for sources- they belong here!
[edit]These sources do not ever belong in External links. I have moved the link farm from there to this talk page where they do belong. Warning: I didn't check them over, so be careful in choosing any references here. Thank you! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 14:01, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

I agree, except return Little Steven's Underground Garage to the list. The only other I would keep is his website. that is 2 total.Tillywilly17 (talk) 05:47, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Person profile updated in Steven Van Zandt's article
[edit]Again I bring the case back here on the discussion page of the article Steven Van Zandt for Sundayclose to restore to the stable version of some IPs of ranges that will update the infobox, ordered occupations, opening sentences and categories in alphabetical order and I also insist that the user restores the most stable version to Kendall Schmidt.
Here is the summary of editions: 1 and 2. 148.0.124.221 (talk) 05:38, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
- Again?? No. This is the first time you have brought it up on the talk page, after numerous attempts to make a change without discussion. There is nothing "stable" about changing the infobox from the default Template:Infobox musical artist. Now please wait for a clear consensus here before continuing to edit war. Sundayclose (talk) 14:57, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
infobox looks fine, with ordered information. Put anymore and it is overkill and will not be read. Infobox already too big.Tillywilly17 (talk) 05:44, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Father
[edit]Does this article mention Van Zandt's biological father? Was his name Vince Borello? 173.88.246.138 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 05:13, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
