Steptoe Butte

Hi If I remember correctly from my geology classes, Steptoe Butte is an archetype. So, all ancient mountains surrounded by younger rock like Steptoe Butte are known as Steptoes. Davehooks (talk) 00:15, 11 October 2009 (UTC) Dave Hooks[reply]

National Natural Landmark?

Steptoe Butte is on the List of National Natural Landmarks in Washington. Probably worth verifying and then adding into this stub. W.stanovsky (talk) 06:53, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More information is available

If I remember correctly from my Washington State History class, Steptoe Butte was first known to the Palouse tribe as 'Eomoshtoss' and was considered sacred. It was referred to by local settlers as Pyramid Peak. It should also be noted that Steptoe was actually defeated at the butte. I've dug deeper into this and found that Col. Steptoe's battle did not take place at the butte. However, 'Eomoshtoss' or 'power mountain' is valid, as is the previous colloquial reference, Pyramid Peak. --Kuritsubaji 06:08, 9 April 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuritsubaji (talk • contribs)

Pictures

It would be nice if we could get those three images to line up differently. In my browser, anyway (FF 3.6.13) the third image seems to be breaking away from the others and winding up further down the page.
