Early history
[edit]Someone who knows more about the history of the area than I do (probably someone local) needs to flesh out the section on establishment and early history of Steamboat Springs, which seems to imply that the town was always all about recreation. My grandfather worked there before World War I, both for the Utah Coal Co. and as a surveyor for the railroad (Union Pacific, I think). I have a copy of his WWI draft registration card, filled out at Steamboat Springs in 1917. It's evident that the first settlers had industry more on their minds than skiing. --Michael K. Smith (talk) 17:54, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
The article currently claims that a sawmill was established before the first permanent Anglo Saxon residents and founders moved there - contradiction? --Mgibby5 (talk) 20:55, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
Controversy details
[edit]I've removed a large chunk of the "controversy" section via this edit, per WP:WEIGHT and WP:NOTNEWS, as it was bordering on POV pushing. Mention of the issue is appropriate; but detailed council minutes were major overkill and placed undu weight on those issues compared to the overall article. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 18:13, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed the content added by Anon1002 (talk · contribs) again here as the content is clearly out-of-place minutia of the zoning activity in the city - much of which appears to be posted just to push a particular agenda. I've also moved the "controversies" section to come after the "history" section here, which is a much more appropriate location for the content in an encyclopedia article. While moving the content, I also added an additional ref provided by Anon1002 which relates to communication between the council member and the city attorney. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 05:55, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
- After locating the source mentioned within the "criticism" section here, it's obvious the section was blatant POV pushing using original research to draw conclusions, using biased selection of quotes to imply issues. If there is notable criticism, a reliable source is needed. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 04:48, 18 March 2009 (UTC)
