Quality concerns

This article does not cite any sources, and is in dire need of formatting and research. Until some authorative sources are cited and the article is appropriately formatted it does to some extend compromise Wikipedia's integrity, espcially since this subject should be covered by a GA. Status Symbol Band Reference

The information about the band "status symbol" was obviously posted by a member of the band as it references the fact that they're "working very hard and have played a few shows." Furthermore, this is not the appropriate place for such a reference, the band should be on their own page. I'm removing the reference to the band and suggest that no page be created about them as they appear to not be particularly worthy of encyclopedia note. Kalemika 23:05, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Polish universities

I understand that University of Warsaw and University of Cracow degrees may be perceived less of a status symbol worldwide than the Ivy League degrees, but what are your exact rationale for deleting them? Have you got appropriate background to judge what is a status symbol in the 40-million nation of Poland? Or is this article supposed to show what all the humanity should aspire to? Shouldn't this article have a breakdown throughout all the countries/nations/cultures? I would be fine stating that at present times in China a status symbol might be having a son or many children while in Poland this might be rather having a degree from an established university and in recent times mixing it with studying abroad for a year within the Erasmus framework. I have no problem noting that in the USA a degree from a Polish university might have no worth, whereas in Poland after the fall of communism expensive cars where more of a symbol of theft and corruption rather than virtous hard work. 95.49.164.50 (talk) 14:33, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

3 candidates for removal

• Home theaters may have conferred status when they first became available (as did the cell phone) but it is certainly no longer the case in 2009.
• Class rings? Really this has to go.
• Private saunas are very common in Finland and unheard of in most parts of the world.

Mobile phones in Turkey

The article claims that mobile phone usage in Turkey circa early 2000s was a status symbol. I believe multiple citations are needed for that.
