The result of the move request was: Page moved to Statue of Robert Baden-Powell, Poole. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:33, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Statue of Robert Baden-PowellStatue of Robert Baden-Powell (Poole) – There is a large statue of Baden-Powell in front of Baden-Powell House in London, as well as several others around the world. Swatchdog (talk) 20:02, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose until there is an article or a redirect for another statue. We don't disambiguate because another topic exists, only when it's in the encyclopedia. PamD 23:03, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I've added a hatnote directing readers to the minimal information about the London statue - and I can't find any substantial info about it beyond the facts already there, so it doesn't seem to merit its own article. I think we can consider this Poole one to be the Primary Topic. PamD 08:22, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have created Statue of Robert Baden-Powell (London). I will go ahead and move this page as per PamD's statement. Swatchdog (talk) 22:11, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Swatchdog, For future reference, you should not move pages while there's an ongoing move discussion. Since there's now an entry for the London statue, I agree disambiguation is needed. But, I believe the naming convention suggests Statue of Robert Baden-Powell, Poole is most appropriate. @Ham II: Would you agree? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:54, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Quite: don't move while under discussion. I have reverted the move while discussion continues. If we decide to move this article then we need (a) to create a disambiguation page, and (b) to fix all the incoming links which refer to this Poole statue. And I think that disambiguation for UK statues is done using the comma version, as the previous poster suggests (see Category:Statues in London for examples. PamD 23:28, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy close please: I've now done just what Swatchdog was criticised for doing: moved the page before this discussion was formally closed. I can't close this as I'm involved. But what I have done is:
  • Moved articles to Statue of Robert Baden-Powell, London and Statue of Robert Baden-Powell, Poole respectively - comma is used outside North America, see MOS:ART/TITLE
  • Created dab page Statue of Robert Baden-Powell: not clear that either of them is the Primary Topic, and there may indeed be other statues which will get an entry or a redirect (possibly becoming notable, or at least noticed, if there are protests about them... ?)
  • Fixed the half dozen incoming links which were aimed at the Poole statue.
  • Removed the hatnotes from both articles, as they aren't needed where the article title is disambiguated.
All done and dusted, I think, and I can't see that anyone would object to any of it so it's now an "uncontroversial page move". PamD 09:47, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ham II, Swatchdog, DeFacto, and Another Believer: for info. PamD 09:51, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
PamD, Yes, this works for me. Speedy close! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:05, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I didn't think that anyone would mind if I moved the page. I thought the name issue had been resolved when I created the new page about the London statue. Swatchdog (talk) 16:36, 5 July 2020 (UTC) @Swatchdog: There were a couple of problems:[reply]

  1. I didn't notice that your proposed new title wasn't the right one - this odd split between how to disambiguate a "Statue of xxx", one way for North America, one for rest of world.
  2. And then the fact that you can't just move a page without following up and doing all the stuff I outlined above, so that no reader following a link from an article lands on a dab page. Either we agree that one article is the primary topic and has the base name title (which is what you objected to in the first place), or there is no primary topic and there is a dab page there, and no links from articles point to the dab page when they ought to point to an article. All's well now, but your hasty page move would have left things in a muddle. PamD 17:17, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
