[edit]"Stanbrook Abbey is an abbey in Cambrai, Flanders, then part of the Spanish Netherlands." is obviously inaccurate. Stanbrook is the successor to an abbey in Cambrai - the name of which escapes me at the moment - that was effectively suppressed during the French Revolution by the imprisonment and subsequent expulsion of its resident religious women.
Someone more familiar with the Abbey may be able to verify whether it, in fact, is still the guardian repository of a significant number of relics (third class?) comprised of religious vesture belonging to/worn by a group of 16 Carmelite nuns who were imprisoned with the Benedictine sisters, but subsequently executed and later (early 20th century) canonized as martyrs. According to at least one Carmelite site, these clothing fragments were given into the care of the Benedictines by a Carmelite who initially escaped execution, but expected to be executed later and wanted them preserved for veneration. Expansion
[edit]There were still road signs (2008) in the village of Callow End for Stanbrook Abbey. Could anyone provide information as to what the location has bcome in order to wrap up the Worcestershire chapter?--Kudpung (talk) 03:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Split into two articles?
[edit]Maybe this article needs to be split into two articles - one about the order of nuns, their current location, their history etc.; and one about the historic building in Worcestershire that is their former home. Thoughts anyone? Chuntuk (talk) 10:52, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
My initial impulse is to agree, but I note serious confusion online between the old and new monasteries. This is the nuns' fault, since the monastic tradition is to change the name of the monastery if there is a move. it should be "Wass Abbey". If this article is to be split, there would have to be a disambiguation page Shubimperatrix (talk) 15:58, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Geographical co-ordinates
[edit]The co-ordinates shown are incorrect and look as if they are those of the former site in Worcestershire. The co-ordinates for the village of Wass in the Wikipedia article are 54.2073 N. 1.15051 W. I can't see how to change the co-ordinates in the article, and even if I could, I don't know the co-ordinates of the abbey's present site to the precision of the existing co-ordinates.CWO (talk) 16:41, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Sorted out. Shubimperatrix (talk) 15:53, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Some issues
[edit]I hope to add some more on the history and the buildings in due course, including references to Colwich Abbey which was a daughter house. Two points as regards my edits:
- The honorific "Dame" is not used by all Benedictine nuns in England. See Minster Abbey for a community that does not.
- East Hendred is not a daughter house of the abbey, because the three founding nuns left without permission. Shubimperatrix (talk) 15:52, 20 October 2020 (UTC) It lasted just 8 years. It was a "rebellion". See Crispian Hollis article.--Po Mieczu (talk) 23:08, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
