The comment concerning the proximity of St George’s church to Priorslee and being the reason for the name is nothing more than ill-founded speculation and opinion.

Priorslee is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as being part of Shifnal (then known as Iteshale, later Idsall) this pre-dates the building of both St George's and St Peter's, Priorslee's own Anglican church, by many centuries.

Priorslee is said in many published works to have been in the possession of the canons of Wombridge Priory, hence it's name. This priory, now demolished, was about two miles northwest.
