The article was rewritten using my own personal knowledge of St. Thomas Aquinas High School as an alumnus of that school. Several of the facts I wrote are also present on the official school website, but they are all also general knowledge among the school's students, parents and alumni. So, I don't believe there is any copyright problem in this article whatsoever. Please point out to me what is illegally copyrighted material included in this article and I will remove it. I will do whatever is necessary to allow an article on this St. Thomas Aquinas High School to be posted on Wikipedia. It seems that my article is no different than a similar article posted regarding St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati Ohio, and that article was allowed..

Move

I'm going to write an article on the St. Thomas Aquinas high School in Fort Lauderdale. Its achievements seem very notable. I think that both articles should append "in (their city)" so that both can coexist. Incorrect

I deleted the line about the school requiring community service for graduation. I am currently a senior at St. Thomas, and no such requirement exists. Starsquare16 16:51, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup

I removed quite a bit of stuff from the article as it was loaded with copyrighted and unreferenced material. The entire section on the seal was a cut-and-paste from the school's website. Not only is that a copyright violation (even with a link to the website), but it's in violation of Wikipedia's "Not a Mirror" policy. Also, unless the seal has been covered in the media somehow, it really doesn't need an entire section of its own in an article like this. If it has some significant history behind it, it can easily be included in a history section if needed.

Next, there were lots of "was well known" or "is known for". Remember, Wikipedia is for a worldwide audience, so few outside (and not everyone inside) "knows about" this school for their sports or academics, or whatever. When a statement like that is made it needs to come from a reliable third-party source. Most times, schools are somewhat known locally for certain things, but once you leave that small geographic area, no one has even heard of the school. That goes with some of the word choices too, like "rigorous" or "quality", words that are point of view and are highly subjective. Unless they have a reliable and neutral source (i.e. not the school's own website), the words shouldn't be there.

Most of the notable alumni were removed because, well, they aren't notable. Basically, if the person has a Wikipedia article, list them. If not, don't list them. There are rare exceptions to that policy, but the Notable alumni sections are to list notable people, not just successful people from the school. The notability has to be from Wikipedia's notability standard, not the school's.

I removed the whole "clubs and activities" section because it was just about the Junior Classical League club. Those sections were mass added to numerous high school articles based on one website, regardless of whether the local OJCL chapter was even functioning or active. The article could use a referenced history section on the school itself and much more on academics (what kinds of classes are offered? Any that are unique or notable?). Remember when writing the article, it's not to promote the school; this is an encyclopedia article about the school. Be sure to read WP:BOOSTER too. --JonRidinger (talk) 04:45, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
