I will get to it. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:36, 5 January 2012 (UTC)  Done Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:09, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English name fo this better?`

[edit]

Since this phenomenon just got into the news in a big way, I had thought of starting an article about it only to find we already had this one. I didn't know we had this ... because it uses the Chinese name.

I think this is a poor choice. Or, rather, it may have been a defensible choice when the article was created, but isn't anymore. For better or for worse, the Anglosphere media has glommed onto "dancing grannies" as its preferred term. I suggest we move the article to that term ... it isn't perfect, but naming conventions dictate using the most recognizable term. Daniel Case (talk) 23:45, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Daniel. Good points. I started this as Chinese fitness dancing, because I didn't know the right name for it over here. I'm not loving the name Guangchangwu because it is not the common name outside of China. Dancing grannies is problematic as the name ignores China, where it is huge. Hmmmmm, tricky. Does "China" have to be in the name? Open-crotch pants (remember that?) is about a very Chinese phenomenon, yet it doesn't have "China" or "Chinese" in the name.

And on the flip side, going to an article I just finished last week, how many Chinese home runs have been hit in China? (I also doubt Chinese schools hold fire drills by having everyone get out the nearest exit, run around the building screaming and waving their hands around (or laughing hysterically, which can be the same thing) until they get back to the entrance they came in). Addendum: Square dancing (China) and plaza dancing actually seem to get more hits. Perhaps we should use the former? Daniel Case (talk) 00:12, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As the recent mover, I'm good with any name. I originally chose guangchangwu to differentiate the Chinese dancing in squares from the Western dance that forms squares. _dk (talk) 00:23, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm good with the name too. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:37, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WP:GA?

[edit]

This is well researched and written. I've promoted it to the B-class. I would encourage the author(s) to take it to WP:GAN next. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:18, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I have been considering it (although I have a few others I'd like to get there first). Daniel Case (talk) 17:54, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
