Question
[edit]... shouldn't rackets be here somewhere, or have I misunderstood something? Edwardando (talk) 11:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Currently the history is from "History". www.soccerballworld.com. Retrieved 2016-05-16. The history on the sports equipment page should include much more than soccer. Kaylahlieuw (talk) 04:24, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: Although the information in this article seems basic enough it still needs citations to verify the information it is displaying. Also, certain sections could use expanding such as the History of Sports section. A.anderson.20 (talk) 19:07, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: This articles categories/subsections are much to broad, "Footwear," for example, can in no way begin to encompass the vast differences in shoes (and cleats, skates, slippers..etc) that athletes wear. The category should be much better broken down and then expanded upon or at least link to other pages that do go into more detail. Marisoltracy (talk) 20:39, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: The footwear section of the article is vague and needs more detail for the reader to understand the purposes of each shoe/boot. In particular, the note about skis as footwear is difficult to understand because ski boots are essential to attach skis to one's feet. It would be helpful to include ski boots in the same bullet point to show how these are related. Claykirwood (talk) 19:06, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: I think it could be helpful to provide a few more links for different types of athletic footwear rather than broadly stating them. Maybe subhead the different types of shoes and go into more detail for each as there are a lot of different general forms of shoes (i.e.: court, cleat, etc.) ZoeLeonard (talk) 00:24, 17 April 2017 (UTC)ZoeLeonard
@MaterialGyrl: The information in general is just lists which does not contain detailed information. It just lists examples of training equipment rather than explaining what training equipment is used for. It should include an introductory sentence before the examples of training equipment explaining to the reader what training equipment is, where to find it (e.g. at a gym) and why it is used. Georgiabeni (talk) 20:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: One aspect of this article that I really think is way too broad is the last section titled "History of Sports Equipment" or something of that nature. Looking back on all of our presentations in class, where we each spent easily 10 minutes briefly summarizing one piece of equipment, this section really should be either its own separate article or just be completely eliminated since there is no way to summarize the history of sports in an article where the focus is something related but also completely different Bwhit13091 (talk) 22:13, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: Something I think could be improved upon in the article is the organization of information. Right now the 'History and development of sports' is the bottom section. I think this should be included closer to the top of the article. Mgarmann (talk) 02:34, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: One section of the page that can be improved with some added detail is the section where you go into the equipments. You list the footwear and protective equipment but give little detail about each and how they specifically help the sport they are used in. A brief description of how they are implemented into the sport would be good. Eschholzalec (talk) 02:48, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: The organization of this entire page easily confuses readers by not centering information around one theme, such as unique sport. I suggest that the header/introductory paragraph is used to explain the variation of technical equipment (ball, bat, goal) and eliminates the table currently used. After this, an extensive history can follow - referencing the different sports that will be elaborated on after this section. Centering and breaking up all of your information (technical and historical) by sport allows for a more appealing Wiki page!--Crufino1047 (talk) 03:01, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: Currently boards for sports are listed under footwear. While it is true that they do do often connect to a person by their feet, I suggest they be listed as a separate entity from footwear since they do not provide the same function. ryderstone (talk)
@MaterialGyrl: The page overall needs to be revised. There are problems with grammar, even in the first sentence. Also the information is very scarce. There isn't even a whole paragraph to cover the introduction of the subject, just one sentence that has incorrect grammar. While the information on the page may be correct, It seems as though it is just an outline and hasn't actually been written yet. Maggie.pionzio (talk) 04:42, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: This page would benefit from a larger section on equipment used in adaptive sports. These include many types of equipment, ranging from adaptive skiing to common team sports. MSaylor802 (talk) 11:56, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
@MaterialGyrl: The section on protective equipment is a bit shallow and could definitely be expanded on, in my opinion. It is oddly specific with the first one as "Football Helmet" and not stating the many other types of helmets utilized in sports. Knee braces and gloves should be included in this section.
