Baharat

Need new article about baharat or bahar (بهار), a Middle Eastern spice mixture from the Near East and the Gulf States, particularly in mutton dishes, containing allspice, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, etc. I suppose it's similar to advieh or garam masala. "Italian Seasoning"

Italian seasoning is a common herb mix in the UK, and yet its not here. It doesn't seem to be represented anywhere on wiki pages. I find this odd as besides mixed spices, I imagine that its the most common blend of herbs bought here. Just for sake of completeness The blend i have in front of me (ASDA's) is: Oregano (27%), basil (16%), Dried red peppers (14%), Marjoram, Thyme, Rosemary, sage, parsley. Possible removal from list

An entry in List of colors: N–Z contained a link to this page.

The entry is :

  • Spicy mix

I don't see any evidence that this color is discussed in this article and plan to delete it from the list per this discussion: Talk:List_of_colors#New_approach_to_review_of_entries

etymology

firstly, perhaps a dictionary of one of the languages concerned would be more appropriate.

secondly, the transliterations are unclear and require IPA or whatever conventional transliteration from the respective field. At least the Arabic is ambiguous for me: what are the vowel-lengths? is this a /s/ or the emphatic /ṣ/? is the H a /h/ or /ḥ/? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.203.147.94 (talk) 22:27, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Organizing the LIST

I just reorganized the list which was under a banner for being 'indiscriminate'. I did my best to address what... might be the issue.

  • Listings on food are easier to understand when they're lumped in similar groups. Geographically close areas share common traits which make more sense to read about. There are caveats- for instance the US, which has a remarkably different culinary approach than neighboring Mexico, has plenty of foods derived from European origins (and thus geographically far away). I've done my best to put items where they originated, or are most widely used.
I've removed any melanges that are WLed to a particular dish. A 'spice mix' that only applies to one dish is simply an ingredient list. An appropriate entry for such a list should be:
  1. Spice mix has a distinct name.
  2. Typically used to make multiple dishes. (Pumpkin Pie Spice is well beyond pies)
  3. Has an article/appropriate sourcing (obvs.)

Hopefully this makes sense and can guide future additions, since there are so many more out there to taste. Sourcing food stuff is incredibly challenging so I want to remind anyone else reading this to stick with WP:RS! There are some cooking blogs I'd give my life for, but could never EVER use on WP.
