Edge for iOS/iPadOS

[edit]

The version number needs to be updated to 46.3.30, as an update was released on September 8th, 2021. GabrielBloom28 (talk) 13:21, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Not supported for Linux"

[edit]

The article claims that Edge is available for Linux, but when I go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge on a linux PC, it says "Not supported for Linux". It lists downloads for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android and that is all. The cited refs all seem to be from the beta and "coming soon" stage. If it is actually available for Linux as the article claims, where is the ref for that and the downloads? - Ahunt (talk) 20:29, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Downloads here. -- WOSlinker (talk) 20:40, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Those seem to be .rpm files. I did find Ubuntu here: https://packages.microsoft.com/ubuntu/. So why does the official website say "Not supported for Linux"? - Ahunt (talk) 20:44, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Currently supported version?

[edit]

The version history chart for the Chromium-based Edge seems to indicate that no version is currently supported, but the text and infobox seem to indicate that at least one does exist. -- Beland (talk) 23:05, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The current supported version of Microsoft Edge for Windows is Version 108.0.1462.42, released on December 5, 2022. 169.224.255.20 (talk) 21:20, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You will need to take that up on Wikidata. Good luck. - Ahunt (talk) 21:22, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Microsoft Edge for Business

[edit]

I've just noticed a new logo on my Microsoft Edge. Couldn't find anything doing an image search. The Edge logo has a small brown briefcase added to the icon on the taskbar. I've just found out it's for Microsoft Edge for Business. For info, see here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-for-business ML5 (talk) 09:06, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Split article into old EdgeHTML Edge and the current Chromium Edge

[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Half of the article are informations about the EdgeHTML-based Edge that mixed with information of the current Chromium Edge which I think will be confusing for layman. It had been a year or two since the Chromium Edge replaced the old EdgeHTML Edge so either the article needs to be clean up for its information or split the article for better clarity. If the page being split I recommend that the current page retains as Chromium based Edge as it is the latest version. ~ Limyx826 (talk) 07:47, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • I tried mitigating the problem by rewriting the article heading to further emphasize the difference of the two Edges. I personally think that moving most of information regarding the “Edge Legacy” towards its own section would be enough. Jothefiredragon (talk) 07:46, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree. There should be an article about Microsoft Edge Legacy, and one about Microsoft Edge (Chromium). Tailscraft (talk) 18:35, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree: I agree this should be split about the Legacy Edge and the Chromium version, as they are very different from each other. A "for the legacy version, click here" might be necessary if the outcome is "split". Myrealnamm (talk to me) 18:25, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree: Edge Legacy is a different browser and it would help balance the size of this article. This would allow more room for the development, features, and reception of each version. A hatnote could be added to the top of the article for disambiguation. StreetcarEnjoyer (talk) 19:29, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disagree Although they are two separate and distinct versions, they are still the same base product. As an example of my point: Human lives are long and go through several phases. We don't split an individual's life up into separate articles simply because they started a new career or advanced into a new phase of their life. The article should remain as it is, with the two distinct versions under the same article. SWDG 23:42, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree per StreetcarEnjoyer. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 13:11, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree: The current version of Edge and its original EdgeHTML version are drastically different products and I believe they both warrant seperate articles. Crying2theocean (talk) 22:32, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I agree with SWDG and Jothefiredragon comments, we don't need two separate articles to describe the current Edge and Legacy Edge, if we work on the article, it is easy to make a clear distinction between the current and former which both have the same name, and showing both of the logos would also help in differentiating the two. General people out there will only look at the front side, they see "Microsoft Edge as Microsoft Edge", not "it's engine was Edge HTML and now it's Chromium" which is a bit more on the technical side of things. I must also note, upon reading the article, I'm able to see a distinction between the two presented clearly, I'm not sure where we are getting the "confusing for layman", after all we have to read what is written in order to understand, if you don't read the article properly, you won't see the distinction, right? Steven (Editor) (talk) 22:48, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree The EdgeHTML and Chromium versions are, in all but name, completely different. I also agree with Myrealnamm on the need for a for the legacy version, see Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML).-FusionSub (talk) 13:41, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree by this point, the two browsers have little in common but name. Asyncadr (talk) 22:47, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: as stated by others, there is no need to split this up. It just requires work to clarify what the article is talking about, but does not warrant a split. We don't do this for any other browser either (Opera and Maxthon come to mind), nor any software that goes through a major rewrite. YannickFran (talk) 08:20, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agree I agree with FusionSub and Asyncadr. EdgeHTML and Chromium are not related except for being browser engines. They show pages from HTML, CSS and JS, but they aren't very similar. Thus, MSEdge Legacy, and the new MSEdge, are completely different and should have different pages, and Microsoft Edge should be an intersection of sorts, between a general information page, MSEdge w/ EdgeHTML, and MSEdge w/ Chromium. User1234567890^2 (talk) 16:26, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Currently there are 8 people agreeing with the split proposal. I suppose that a draft for Edge Legacy could very well be created. Jothefiredragon🐲talk🐉edits 01:41, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I second this. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 02:51, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
4 disagreeing so far, but I still can't find sufficient reasoning to warrant a separate article, the use of headings is a great idea to separate the two within the article and what I wrote in my opposing comments above along with the other opposing comments. Also if we were to have a separate article, what more info could be added knowing the Legacy has been out of support and forcibly removed and replaced with the Chromium version via updates, and new machines coming with the new version by default, starting back in 2021? According to forums online, people have been trying different workarounds to get the Legacy Edge to work to no avail and it exiting immediately upon launching Steven (Editor) (talk) 09:22, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: Perhaps making an article called History of Microsoft Browsers to include all the history of Microsoft Browsers, from IE to the modern Microsoft Edge? Myrealnamm (💬pros · ✏️cons) 14:44, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Myrealnamm Imho, This is a better idea than Edge Legacy article. Thank you for bringing it up. Jothefiredragon🐲talk🐉edits 00:56, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current version info is out of date as usual.

[edit]

No one seems committed to keeping the current version data in Wikidata. It's about a month out of date, and who updates it doesn't seem to be consistent. We should omit purportedly current version info, and refer people to sources for it instead, no? RudolfoMD (talk) 02:59, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. I could change that. Myrealnamm (talk to me) 18:26, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I tried changing it on Wikidata but somehow it didn't show up here in the article. @RudolfoMD Do you know what I did wrong there? Myrealnamm (talk to me) 20:01, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just so you know user:RudolfoMD was indefinitely blocked in January StreetcarEnjoyer (talk) 20:05, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking about mentioning that. Thanks though! Myrealnamm (talk to me) 20:08, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@StreetcarEnjoyer Could you try to help me, if you are familiar with Wikidata, on solving the issue? I tried adding information to a newer update (March 27) Myrealnamm (talk to me) 20:17, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I'm not a Wikidata person. You could try asking at the WP:HELPDESK. StreetcarEnjoyer (talk) 21:02, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
