Unclear Scope
[edit]It is unclear to me what this article is supposed to be about. As a railway line it is partly redundant to other lines (e. g. Catford Loop line and Chatham main line); as a service (Overground?) the article should not cover the infrastructure or any other services.--PhiH (talk) 12:49, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
I have just noticed that Battersea Park–Peckham Rye Jn is a seperate line (with Atlantic line being a redirect to this page). Parts of this article describe that line but it is still not clear what the whole article is about.--PhiH (talk) 08:56, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- The South London Line follows the Catford Loop Line from Peckham Rye to Wandsworth, but my understanding is that it's strictly the two southern roads, and the northern roads are the Catford Loop Line. Atlantic Lines I think is a sort of crossover between SLL and CLL. Perhaps this should be brought up with the work that Djm-leighpark is doing for the Sutton & Mole Valley Lines? -mattbuck (Talk) 13:08, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- The two southern tracks between Battersea and Peckham Rye are referred to as Atlantic lines (plural) in the Sectional Appendix. That railway line is part of what is called South London line in this article.--PhiH (talk) 18:06, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- It seems sometimes a stretch of railway track will lie under the domain of more that one line, and that seems to be the case here. The term "South London line" has been in use for some while, prior to the overgrounds it was used in the context of London Bridge to Victoria suburban services (and possibly for freight?) ... not everything Brixton-Denmark_Hill-Peckham Rye went/goes down the Catford Loop. It's a valid article and can't I believe be covered well by a simple redirect. Any CFORKs have to be managed. I'm not totally happy by the total ownership claim of "London Overground" in the lede ... especially first sentence ... as this seems to ignore freight and history. My experience zone is more South-western¢ral not southeastern so I'm likely not to get to involved here.Djm-leighpark (talk) 19:41, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- Primarily, the South London line is London Bridge-Victoria; west of Peckham Rye it's the southern pair of tracks although the four tracks between there and the Factory Junction/Stewarts Lane area were all built together. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:26, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
- London Bridge–South Bermondsey Jn is already part of the Brighton main line, Wandsworth Road Jn–Victoria is the Chatham main line. Officially the section South Bermondsey Jn–Peckham Rye Jn is part of the line to Horsham (Sutton and Mole Valley lines) but I could only find vague information about the history of that section.
- Regardless of what we consider part of this line it shouldn't sound like an Overground-service. Especially the introduction needs to be rewritten.--PhiH (talk) 08:28, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

Agree it is muddling history with current. It gices the impression that Victoria is on the London overground Andrewblack (talk) 21:34, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
Source for route section
[edit]Druce describes the route in detail, but it is from 1953. Does a more recent source exist? MRSC (talk) 07:45, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
