This is a GA review for Sonic Colors as of this edit. The review is based off of the good article criteria and holds no bias.

Please note some of the "errors" are less errors and more possible improvements. Also note that I'm very particular and not very lenient... sorry in advance.

Also note that this review uses direct quotes to signify the location of issues. You can use the Find... feature in your browser (ctrl+f) and paste the quote to be taken directly to the issue.

Also note that any of my points can be argued if you see necessary. This is a discussion, not a list. I would like a form of comment on the review, including possible reasoning if one of my points are flimsy.

Also note that suggestions are provided in caps not to scream at you but so you can easily distinguish the suggestion.

ERR REF

[edit]
  • Lack of image caption causes confusion in reader of the key art's origin
    • Added caption.
  • "ory follows Sonic's quest to stop his nemesis" > "ory follows SONIC THE HEDGEHOG's quest to stop his nemesis"; "Sonic the Hedgehog" is full name, although nickname "Sonic" can be used prior to mentioning this for readability
    • The reason I put just Sonic is because it says "Sonic the Hedgehog" right before that; it would read awkwardly.
  • "Gameplay is similar to prior en..." > "THE gameplay is..."; sentence readability
    • Done.
  • "...ntries in the franchise, wit..." > "series"; franchise refers to larger Sonic universe (such as the TV series) while series refers to just the game series
    • Done.
  • "...as a form of health and defeating...": substitute 'health; comes under "Gaming jargon" section of WP:VG/MOS.
    • Changed to be simpler.
  • ^ Same goes for the use of "power-ups" on the next line
    • I think this is understandable though. I've never had to change this in previous GARs, since it's usually explained right after what the power-ups are.
  • "Development of Sonic Colors began..." > "THE development..."; sentence readability
    • Done.
  • "...eatured in various games across the franchise." > "eatured in various games across the SERIES."; mentioned before
    • Done.
  • "...f a player exausts their lives, they will r..." > "...f a player EXHAUSTS their lives, they will r..."; spelling error
    • Done.
  • "...res via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection." > "...res via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."; service doesn't require a "the"
    • Done.
  • "...echanic used in Sonic and the Black Knight (2009)." > "...echanic used in Sonic and the Black Knight."; release year not required in sentence
    • I always put the years of release, since it's required in FACs and recommended in other GA reviews I've been involved in.
  • "...y the successful Mario & Sonic crossover games" > I believe it'd be more beneficial to reference the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series rather than just "Mario & Sonic crossover", as the only crossover titles it's referencing (M&S titles on the Wii) are said series.
    • Done.
  • "...Wisps include Sonic Generations (2011), Sonic Lost World (2013), and Sonic Forces (2017)."; remove years of release
    • See my previous response on this.
  • "...games and concluded that the game was "crap"..."; I feel like a better quote could be used here -- Sterling citing it being "crap" doesn't add anything to the article
    • Changed to "poor".
  • "...uch as Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)."; get rid of year of rel
    • See my previous response on this.

REF REF

[edit]
  • Reference 16 ("Interviews// Sonic Colours Producer, Takashi Iizuka". SPOnG) does not actually cite the claim given -- there is no reference of Takashi Iizuka actually saying the stages were inspired by Disneyland, rather the author is inviting a comparison. Either an actual cite requires a supply or the info is original research.
    • Iizuka is keen to stress that the presence of starships “is not as serious as it sounds,” pointing out the light-hearted Disneyland-inspired level design and the infectiously happy soundtrack. Directly from source.

MAJ REF

[edit]
  • The article is missing information about the DS version of Sonic Colors, particularly its gameplay
    • There's a sub-section in release about the DS version, which I think explains it quite well. I'm open to moving it to the gameplay section, however.
  • 'Legacy' should be integrated as a subheading into Reception
    • This is separate from reception, though. Most VG-related discussions have favored legacy being separate, unless it has something to do with the game's reception.

FIN REF

[edit]
  1. Well written? Multiple errors, aforementioned
  2. Verifiable? An error, aforementioned
  3. Broad? Does not include information about Nintendo DS version's gameplay
  4. Neutral?
  5. Stable?
  6. Images?

Overall, when you look at the article, it is definitely capable of becoming GA, but it just isn't quite there yet. It's missing important information, particularly about the Nintendo DS version. A good place to start would be making a subheading in Gameplay called Nintendo DS for gameplay description about the Nintendo DS version.

I must fail this article, but I'd be happy to re-review it if changes are made. If you have a problem with some of my args, please rebuttal me. Best of luck for the next nom!

@P*h3i: I've responded above; fixed most of your issues and clarified others. Thanks for reviewing. JOEBRO64 10:28, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TheJoebro64: That's great, and I understand all your rebuttals except the ones about supplying the year after mentioning a game. It's featured nowhere in other featured articles and is redundant knowledge to display on the article. If the reader wants to know the release year of Sonic Generations, that's what the link provided is for, but seeing as though the knowledge is so niche, it shouldn't be there. It's also inconsistent, with some games having their year supplied and some not. This isn't a review any more, but it's just a suggestion. Also, you haven't changed the wording in the lead with the word 'health' when you said you would change it to be simpler above. ~ P*h3i (talk to me) 19:00, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, while I don't really support or oppose all the "year in brackets" stuff, I will say that it's not really widely done through the video games WikiProject outside of the Sonic articles JB keeps introducing it into. Sergecross73 msg me 15:50, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it was worth failing the entire review over, and as I stated before most FA reviewers require the years to be stated in some form. I'm just renominating the article. JOEBRO64 11:29, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TheJoebro64: The main reason I failed the article was because there was no information about the Nintendo DS version's gameplay that was actually in the Gameplay section. On top of that, there was a multitude of errors and a lot of the prose was off. I believe it's basically GA status but not quite. Also, I've never seen games have release years after them when mentioned on Wikipedia, specifically on featured articles. Could you supply an example? Thanks. ~ P*h3i (talk to me) 06:16, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
