[What follows is a continuation (begun in The Sandōkai) of an edited version of lectures given by Rev. Master Jiyu Kennett to all monks in September, 1981. The lectures were first published in Zen Training (Shasta Abbey, 1982, presently out-of-print), and reprinted in the Winter 1994 issue of The Journal of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives © 1994. The Scriptures themselves are copyright © Shasta Abbey.
