Listing Solanum emulans as a synonym of Solanum alatum is not supported by the references
[edit]In fact, just the opposite. The conserved type of Solanum alatum was chosen specifically to avoid confusion with Solanum emulans.
Quoting from the proposal to conserve (last reference): "The existing neotype and epitype of S. alatum are an illustration in Dillenius cited by Linnaeus and an associated herbarium specimen. That specimen can be identified as the North American species S. emulans Raf. (until very recently called S. ptychanthum Dunal), which has black fruits with many sclereids. Applying S. alatum to that newly renamed species could increase confusion, especially because S. villosum has been introduced in North America." Curtis Clark (talk) 06:01, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
