definition
[edit]Can social inclusion be defined independently of social exclusion?
Peter Clutterbuck and Marvyn Novick, in their paper, "Building Inclusive Communities: Cross-Canada Perspectives and Strategies", prepared for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and The Laidlaw Foundation in 2003, state the findings from community soundings they conducted as part of the Inclusive Communities Canada project.
The following are characteristics of socially inclusive communities according to these soundings:
- Integrative and cooperative – inclusive communities bring people together and are places where people and organizations work together.
- Interactive – inclusive communities have accessible community spaces and open public places as well as groups and organizations that support social interaction and community activity, including celebrating community life.
- Invested – inclusive communities are places where both the public and private sectors commit resources for the social and economic health and well-being of the whole community.
- Diverse -- inclusive communities welcome and incorporate diverse people and cultures into the structures, processes and functions of daily community life.
- Equitable – inclusive communities make sure that everyone has the means to live in decent conditions (i.e. income supports, employment, good housing) and the opportunity to develop one’s capacities and to participate actively in community life.
- Accessible and Sensitive – inclusive communities have an array of readily available and accessible supports and services for the social, health, and developmental needs of their populations and provide such supports in culturally sensitive and appropriate ways (essential services identified include good schools, recreation, childcare, libraries, public transit, affordable housing and supportive housing, home care, crisis and emergency supports, well coordinated and comprehensive settlement supports).
- Participatory – inclusive communities encourage and support the involvement of all their members in the planning and decision-making that affect community conditions and development, including having an effective voice with senior levels of government.
- Safe – inclusive communities ensure both individual and broad community safety and security so that no one feels at risk in their homes or moving around the neighbourhood and city.
cases
[edit]I would say that the relocaiton of Five Civilized Tribes was a case of naked notorious social exclusion. any other similar cases. Jackzhp 15:36, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- It was primarily an economic exclusion, IMHO. Guido den Broeder (talk) 09:22, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
The focus on Australian aboriginal communities is relevant, but seems to be set as an isolated case, although the colonists did the same in other nations of the modern world, eg. USA, Canada, South Africa etc. The Australian example should be collected with other examples., — Preceding unsigned comment added by SipooJack (talk • contribs) 18:07, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
Merging with Marginalization
[edit]Well, since the template suggesting that this article should be merged with marginalization has been here since 22 February and nobody has protested I will do it now. Åkebråke (talk) 14:24, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Major edits and cleanup
[edit]Hello all,
I've gone through the entire article and made significant edits that I believe make the piece more usable. I will use parts of it for a handout I'm giving out to students for a lecture, and I think it will meet that purpose. I think the tone is now more scientific / encyclopedic, and lots of the repetition has been removed. Tarek (talk) 09:33, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Merge with exclusion proposal
[edit]- Oppose - This concentrates on social rejection at an interpersonal level, and is highly specific to that subject. Merging with the exclusion article risks losing the specificity of this article and reduces awareness. Lucas "nicatronTg" Nicodemus (talk) 19:47, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose as per Lucas "nicatronTg" Nicodemus--Penbat (talk) 19:48, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
- Going to clarify: the 'discuss' link on the Social rejection article links here; my complaints are primarily with losing that article's information, but the same argument can be made for the social exclusion article too. Lucas "nicatronTg" Nicodemus (talk) 19:50, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
- agree --Penbat (talk) 19:54, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
- Also agree —AeroNHZach (talk) 02:56, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose These are both valid topics in their own right. It's been long enough since that tag was added, the editor who added it has never weighed in here (nor contributed to the project in the last seven months), so I propose we remove the tag now. Jojalozzo (talk) 03:37, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
Removed factual errors
[edit]I have just removed the vandalistic edits that were made by Ravishyam_Bangalore to this article, although I am amazed that no one else ever reviewed those edits. OccultZone (Talk • Contributions • Log) 17:47, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

I think, I want to put in some few prisms in this text, about some problemacys I feel science has left out - or yet not actually started too look into more deeply - wether this is of reasons that stem from lastest 40 years of individualistic liberal capitalistic values that influence science and world views,or other reasons. I think if in the 1960-70s when a lot of values was more socialistic influenced - more interest had been put on how such developments as extreme individualism, modern virtual reality and IT supported interactions, merged with globalism and all of this influence on society and real timelife meetings and interactions - with greater emphasis on the negative than positive influences, could have created policies and greatly influenced the human sciences including psychology and sociology to investigate and develope strategies to mitigate further negative outcomes within this liberal capitalistic society that basically and absolutely are based on values that set the values of few above wellfare of the many, that values economic positive boost and success for sertain people of the globalelite(1%)and the main intellectual and borgeuaise class of about 30% above all the rest including our environment.
The price of this modern industrialised / post industrialised sociactice based on this liberal intellectual ethics put in practice through politics globally - directly or through cultura land economical influence - is creating societies with lonely people disconnected absolutely from all that previous societies made individuals included in. Connections are severed between people and nature, between people and leaders, between differrent occupations and professions through specialisation and diversification used by politicians and capitalists ina amachiavellian reality in order to split and set different unfair and unequal values on jobs and people according their need to keep the masses divided and the few enriched.
The price still no one talks about -is weather alltgese influences on mackro and micro niveu helps create the mantal landscape -that lead to school schootings, criminality, hooliganism, schooting sprees, hatered of others, a spread of ostracissm, abuse, bullying and general hatered - that in the long run ends in further extreemes such as terrorism.
We obviosly dont live in healthy societys - people get into more lonely lives, people are actually more unhappy, and people are more prone to mental health issues - more people now than ever are singles. Online on Facebook, and other socialmedia peopleprop themselves up - to hide their actual state of mind and affairs - a lot actually are not happyin thesocietythey have to live in - but are afraid to openly accnowledge this,as,they cant influence the big wheelof force, the great cage of power that makes the factual juridicaland economic socila framework in wich they are forced tolead their lives.
The modern era - produce unhealthy people and want it this way,as the economic framework is produced to keep the mass above sinking line, while the elite and the middle class is as far possible separated from the negative products of this capitalistic unequal system - that in her elusive propaganda by schooling program the servants of this system,to accept the framework and live with the consequenses,by stating the opposite - our equality - while openly practicing the code of unequality at what ever cost.
This cant be solved by more unequality or giving these suffering masses more drugs, anti depressive drugs and other treatments that just eleviates the scars on the surface.
Science still need to get engaged to run through these big questions - and greatly - start to influence politics - so real change - can be created long term. In this question - sciences must be as bold as climate sciences is today -trying to influence politicians to solve complicated ecological planetary problems. In both these cases - a lot is interconnected - all are products of unhealthy political systems that are created to exlude the equation of nature and humanity - and to keep any of them healthy and happy,in harmony and ballance - the liberal capitalistic system is built on expansionism and exlusion through elitism and monopolistic goals.
We need an new era - new politics - that evolve further - and start a new beginning - to create healthier realities.
All nation states - nations - are new products of ideas created 200-500 years ago - as their elites became those of today, all of them bent the political juridical system tokeep others out and give them privileges through the capitalistic system - as all elites - they feel threatend by those who imply cahnge is needed and they are in fear of loosing status, power, influence and economic positions. But - have we not already evolved from the first civilised scivilistaions - to accnowledge that new problems need new answers through new systems, politics and a new way of thinking in economical terms.
National states put their creation as absolute truith - and started to state further political development cant be made - are thsi actually the final frontier for human endevour, political development and economical "equality" and functionality - is this actually the furthest and highest state of homo spaiens before our demise !?
