Unicode symbol

[edit]

Unicode has the symbol ⨳ for smash product. Is this a different smash product, or is this symbol just not mentioned in the article? porges(talk) 08:55, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is the correct symbol, and it should be included in the article. U+2A33 SMASH PRODUCT (⨳) Senator2029let's talk19:54, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That symbol is not displaying on my browser... and I thought I had a pretty complete set of fonts installed... User:Linas (talk) 17:15, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Associativity of Smash Product

[edit]

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that the associativity of the smash product was not true for the whole category of pointed topological spaces but restricted to something like locally compact spaces or something similar. See also here.

Is there anybody who knows more about this?

Yeah, something like that. Looks like someone already added comments from mathoverflow about this. This needs cleanup and fixing and exposition. User:Linas (talk) 17:20, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Illustration is not helpful

[edit]

The one illustration accompanying this article is much more confusing than it is helpful, and ought to be removed.

What would be helpful for the smash product of two circles is a picture of a torus S1×S1 with S1×{y0} ∪ {x0}×S1 drawn on it, along with an arrow pointing to the smash product, which is a copy of S2.

Along with a caption briefly explaining the picture.
