I found this article while looking for a pic of the "slip gun".... It has some problems.
The only reference to this weapon I've ever seen is in Elmer Kieth's (late firearms writer and authority) old book, "Sixguns":

Specifically, the slip gun is a modification of the Colt Single-Action Army pistol. One removes most of the lockwork save only the hammer, the "hand", and the locking bar. The hammer is modified by cutting away most of the hammer spur and leaving only a stub. There is no trigger.
The weapon is fired by drawing back the hammer with the thumb, using the remaining stub, and then literally allowing it it to "slip" from under the thumb.
