Proposed Rename
[edit]Noting that the representative body for those who provide this service is "The International In-Flight Security Officer Committee (IIFSOC)", can i commend a rename of this article to match, i.e. to 'In-flight security officer (IFSO)'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Somersetlevels (talk • contribs)
- @Somersetlevels: I'd suggest starting a proposal by following the instructions at WP:RM. Daß Wölf 14:38, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Daß Wölf: Uncontroversial technical request initiated
The proposed rename to 'In-flight security officer (IFSO)' (an Official Name, from a Primary Source) was rejected as it was felt that 'Sky marshal' better fulfilled WP:COMMONNAME due to it's currency in Secondary Sources. A redirect page of In-flight security officer (IFSO) has therefore been created.Somersetlevels (talk) 23:16, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Sky marshal → In-flight security officer – The representative body for those who provide this service is "The International In-Flight Security Officer Committee (IIFSOC)", so it is logical to rename this article to match, rather than use a colloquiallism that only applies to some countries Somersetlevels (talk) 11:05, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Does WP:COMMONNAME apply? -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:58, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think it does and contest the move on those grounds. The other title should redirect to the current title.--John Cline (talk) 13:31, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). EdJohnston (talk) 13:32, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose and speedy close. WP:COMMONNAME. Disappointing that anyone would attempt this as an uncontroversial move. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:04, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Comment Why not make 'In-flight security officer' a redirect? YorkshireExpat (talk) 18:39, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Note that air marshal is not used for these people in Commonwealth countries for obvious reasons, so it makes sense to keep it at the current title. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:59, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
