[edit]I remember reading the Six Mile Run, the Nine Mile Run and the Ten Mile Run brooks were all so named because of there respective distances along the Assunpink trail (modern day Route 27) from Indians Ferry (New Brunswick) on the Raritan River; carrying on to Princeton, and eventually the Falls of Delaware crossing at Trenton NJ.
I would have to do a little digging for an exact citation, but I’m quite sure its in Elizabeth G. C. Menzies “Millstone Valley” Copyright 1969, Rutgers University Press. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 68:57688 SBN: 8135-0593-3 a nice little history of the region if you can find it.
