Can anyone cite a reliable source for the claim that this species "comes from Africa"?
[edit]Based on sources such as this; http://www.life.illinois.edu/downie/Spalik_Sium_cpDNA.pdf "The genus Sium includes twelve species that are widely distributed in Eurasia, North America, and sub- Saharan Africa (Pimenov & Leonov, 1993; Spalik & Downie, 2006). The Eurasian members include S. frigi- dum, S. latifolium, S. medium, S. ninsi, S. serra, S. sisa- rum, S. sisaroideum, S. suave, and S. tenue (the author- ships of the species names considered in this study are given in the Appendix). Sium suave occurs also in North America. In sub-Saharan Africa, the genus is represented by S. repandum; two additional species, S. burchellii and S. bracteatum, occur on the island of Saint Helena.", I am pretty confident that the native range of Sium suave is Eurasian/American, and that someone who doesn't know much about botany has been confused by the fact that there are other members of the Sium genus native to Africa. I have edited this article to reflect my understanding. If anyone can find a reliable source for the claim that this species "comes from Africa", they are welcome to add it back in.
